We picked up some folks out in the Med after being surfaced for over 4 months...USN Fast Attack. The first word the guy told me was, "OH my God, how can you live in this smell?" LOL. I laughed and said, "What smell?" I loved working with the Royal Navy. Very professional Sailors.

He's speaking of a Royal Navy Submarine life. Very similar to USN fast attack life minus the booze.. And we loved it..we were galvanized into one mind.. SILENT SERVICE.

I know I'm not first to say this... But these are British subs he's talking about.

My son would say that being an MT on a navy ship is similar lol. He is in the bows of the ship for days without seeing the sun. But, seriously…. It can really impact mental health. I don’t know how these submariners do it really. My son does have access to the outside world obviously. They’re pretty incredible and I thank them for their service.

My father in law was an engineer on a sub for 3 years. Told me the same thing. He got cancer, along with everyone else who were in the sub with him. Chemicals used to clean them.

Submariners are a different breed...
