North east Lincolnshire council are having a meeting today to discuss putting signs up around a bridge saying 'RAPISTS OPERATE AROUND HERE' CCTV and lighting is considered disproportionately expensive options 😲 Complete removal of the bridge is also an option We have had TWO RAPES and one VIOLENT ATTACK in the last couple of years on this bridge and all the council want to do is put up signs warning people that the bridge is DANGEROUS Full video in the comments 👇🏻 A petition signed by over 200 residents last year called for action to improve public safety at Fuller Street Bridge, such as lighting, improved signage "to allow the public to make informed decisions" about crossing a bridge where sexual assaults have been reported has been recommended with lighting and CCTV considered disproportionately expensive options. A decision on possible extra safety measures at Fuller Street Bridge, Cleethorpes, is due to be taken at a meeting today, Monday (January 26) after council officers reported back on the options to increase safety It followed the reports of alleged rapes to Humberside Police in January 2024 and February 2025 Cllr Ron Shepherd (Conservative - Scartho Ward), has since held two meetings on the matter, in June and September 2025. At the last meeting, he tasked council officers to report back with costings on possible lighting and CCTV measures, and for greater detail on the bridge's structural integrity and data on reported crime in the area These have now been put together. The first challenge is solar energy, which faces intermittent generation and varying sun hours in different regions. In Kampala, the average sun hours generating light is 3.5 to 4 lux, compared to 6 in Northern Uganda. Seasonal variations further impact consistency, making maintaining the recommended 40-70 lux lighting for expressways throughout the night challenging. This inconsistency poses safety concerns on high-speed roads. Second challenge Vandalism is another issue, as batteries used in solar lighting can be targeted for resale at 12Volts /24Volts. Despite efforts to deter vandalism, the challenge persists. Telecom towers, which also use solar, avoid this issue due to continuous monitoring, which can't be done for a road with 180 lights and less marketable 48Volt inverters. These things are hard to sell. The final Challenge is maintenance and durability. Uganda is a country of pollen, dust and grime. Regular checks on battery efficiency, cleaning of solar panels, and monitoring darkness sensors are essential in our dusty environment. Standard lighting may be simpler to maintain, focusing mainly on the bulb. While solar may be unavoidable in remote and hard-to-reach areas, the initial installation cost, inconsistent light output and maintenance challenges currently make grid power a more practical choice. While there have been successful solar implementations on a global scale, the widespread adoption of solar technology is still in its nascent stages. Notable examples include the A14 in England, where a section incorporates solar lighting, a 24km expressway in Chile that utilizes solar panels, and a segment of Interstate 10 in Arizona dedicated to illuminating wildlife crossings using solar power. These cases illustrate promising strides in integrating solar solutions, yet comprehensive deployment is yet to reach maturity. Robotics is almost solved! Pun intended. Sunday published a "Solve" standard. They declared the scope (garment types, lighting, surfaces, starting configurations) and adaptation cost (zero—no fine-tuning per home) before evaluating. The same model weights run everywhere. This might be the differentiation between a good demo and reliable work of robots. They presented ACT-2, a robot foundation model that folds laundry at 99.1% success across unseen homes. Different houses, lighting, bed types, garment sizes. According to them scaling pre-training closes the generalization gap. Train on massive, high-quality human data. When you do that right, what you learn in-house actually transfers to unseen homes. Even wilder is that the model learns new folding techniques from a single example and generalizes them to new environments. Memo goes to homes later this year. I've been making great progress on my #Unrealengine tool for helping you find optimisation opportunities and potential bugs in your #UE5 levels It's pretty much there, few more bits to go. I started writing up the documentation and need to do a bunch of testing to make sure everything works as intended! There are currently 91 searches you can run: - 46 optimisation searches across 11 actor types - 45 bug searches across 10 actor types People seem most interested in lighting optimisation, so here are a couple of examples of the light optimisation searches you can run: 🔸Lights with no max draw distance set 🔸Lights with Cast Shadow enabled/disabled 🔸Lights with specific mobility modes 🔸Lights with edited lighting channels Let me know what you would most want to be able to search for! #gamedev

Today I vibe-coded a small but incredibly useful macOS Electron app using Cursor + GPT-5.5. I use my Mac with a Samsung monitor that has a built-in webcam. Every time I used the camera, I noticed annoying light flickering. I always assumed it was my lighting. It turns out the culprit was the anti-flicker setting. The webcam was set to 60 Hz by default, while India's power frequency is 50 Hz. That mismatch causes visible flickering under indoor lighting. Samsung doesn't provide any way to change this on the monitor, and macOS doesn't have a built-in control for it either. So I asked Cursor to build a simple camera control app that lets me change the webcam's hardware settings, including the anti-flicker mode, along with zoom, brightness, contrast, and more. About 30 minutes and a few rounds of refinement later, I had a fully working Electron app. A tiny app, but it solved something that had been annoying me for months.
