Lightning Rod will close for the season on October 30 so we can replace its existing launch system with a high-speed chain lift. This change will give even more of you an opportunity to ride it – we know it’s been frustrating to see it temporarily closed so often.

The ride will reopen Spring 2024. Once the ride crests the lift hill, the ride experience (including a top speed of 73 mph!) will remain the same. We’re excited to provide a more consistent Lightning Rod experience for y’all and look forward to the fun in 2024!

The launch was super unique but I think this will certainly help reliability and uptime. Looking forward to seeing it back open!

It failed on us first thing Wednesday morning, right at the top and we had to roll back and get evac'd onto the walkway. I'm glad a company has the respect to its customers to say, "Hey, we tried, we failed, we'll fix it for you."

Well that was unexpected

I'm all for more reliability, but I am disappointed I will never be able to experience this coaster with the launch

I'd imagine the new trains will be the updated RMC trains with dual front wheels and updated suspension which will make for a smother ride. The main problem withe the launch was the vibration which caused the sensors to stop the ride for being out of tolerance.

Boooooo…. Should be kept open for Christmas.

So the feeling of being thrown over the lift hill will be gone?

Sorry Dollywood, this is a punk move!! Way to take out one of the most unique elements, doesn't matter if there were issues! Saddest video I've seen from a theme park since SF stopped with the Jim Reid-Anderson announcements. KWAB!
