Gary Lineker has had an extraordinary career on and off the pitch. A brilliant sportsman, an outstanding broadcaster and a wonderful human being. For millions of people, Gary Lineker is the face of Match of the Day, but for millions more he is also the face of humility, warmth and decency. He had the courage to defend the humanity of refugees and to speak out against the suffering of Palestinians in Gaza. That should be recognised, remembered and celebrated. Gary will be a huge loss to the BBC, but we will never forget the compassion he has shown for others. Thank you Gary.

I don't know who advised Gary Lineker to do this interview with Amol Rajan, if anyone, but it's a complete car crash. This bit is actually painful to watch: he doesn't understand impartiality, facts or BBC editorial guidelines. (The body language: "HELPP! I am way, way out of my depth".) eg. Rajan: "Audiences didn't know that the child was the son of a Hamas official, isn't that a problem?" GL: "I don't think so, no" Rajan: "But the BBC as a whole needs to be impartial about it." GL: "Why?" Strewth.

I feel incredibly sorry for Gary Lineker..he made one mistake, a genuine mistake. He has apologised. He's resigned. You can all calm tf down now. The silver lining is he is now FREE from the shackles of the BBC and carry on fighting for children being slaughtered and starved to death as we speak...history will remember you kindly Gary.
