Not a new concept have you ever seen "magnetic field viewing film" is a thin, flexible, translucent sheet filled with tiny nickel flakes suspended in oil. It displays magnetic flux and pole patterns in real time by turning dark when magnetic lines hit the sheet straight on and bright when they run sideways. The perspective relies heavily on the shape of the projection surface in addition to the pattern of the field produced which depends on the magnet geometry and composition. For example you can purposefully create a magnet that has 6 poles around a cylinder for a motor rotor.

Sun gazing.....the "sun" looks like that to me when I sun gaze.

Why would the magnetic signature on the plate change with the angle of which you are viewing it? Wouldn't it stay the same no matter what angle you looked at it from?
