Valerie, I have a significant amount of Italian DNA. My great-grandma was Sicilian. She came to America legally and had a lasting impact on me from childhood onward. She could barely speak English, but I watched her from a young age onward. She taught me so much. It's just a part of me, but a significant one. I never felt so at home in my life there. It's a shame there is a difference between the USA and Sicily. I spent time in Rome, and their entire way of life and eating habits bear no resemblance to America. I will never understand the level of pure hatred of Americans. Only here can you suffer and die so miserably. And WHY?

Lots of industrial progress, but we fell in love with "better living through chemistry" after WW2, and it's been a disaster since then, especially because the Feds have an agency for every industry, so industry can buy off every agency and the people have no protection. Revolving door: lobbyists to agency to lobbyists to agency...

Sure. I should have added that none of the corruption in the US is the fault of capitalism or the profit motive, because the Constitution doesn't give any regulatory power to federal agencies (like Food and Drug, Commerce, Agriculture, etc.). Health is a property right, and the courts haven't done their job. They should make it easier for individuals to sue companies and then make the penalties for poisoning people severe enough to stop the behavior.
