They're not killing Doom... kinda the whole point. This movie is starting off as if Thanos began Infinity War with all the stones, and kept them the entire time. You don't win against that through normal means.

When Doom starts to become God King Doom, you have to keep in mind that fighting him inside a universe that he fully controls is like fighting Freddy Kruger in your dreams (or like playing D&D and trying to fight the DM). His finger isn’t physically getting hit by Thors axe and sustaining the impact, he’s just stopping Thor and not allowing him to do damage. He controls essentially everything in this environment. You can’t use physics and powers the same way that you usually could to physically defeat him. In the end, victory will likely either look like unraveling the power structure that’s feeding him, or somehow getting him to defeat himself. Thor with an axe ain’t gonna do it, we saw how out classed he was when he met Dr. Strange. Picture that times like a thousand.
