I been said this. B/c blk ppl in P.G County & D.C (predominately blk) come from well above median National income levels, we don’t really take pride in the workforce/food industry in the area. Think about it… when we go to carry-outs look how we talk to the Asian owners. Like shit. Everywhere else I go in the country there is a sense of pride in the food industry. Here you are looked down upon if you work with food from an EARLY AGE…they clown you in hs for it. Even our chick-fila’s don’t have great customer service which is insane. I don’t do soul food spots around here unless it’s like Carolina Kitchen cause it’s solid not because it’s elite. You have to go to sit down dining restaurants for quality Which is also very very unique because again it’s predominantly blk but showcases some of the best menus and seafood in the area. “The Point D.C”, for example is an amazing kitchen & doesn’t get the notoriety that it should. Those plates he showed is exactly why I don’t eat that bs around here… you have to go sit down in fine dining or a steakhouse, if you want quality food in the DMV, I hate to say it.

Does the DMV have a lot of immigrants doing Black Americans food? Cause those plates look horrible. Can only get away with that in enclaves with larger immigrant population.

I’m on year 8 living in the DMV and this is definitely not the area for ”soul food” and I still haven’t found a good Caribbean place. He would have had more luck with South Asian, Afghan, or Mediterranean food.
