Lockheed Martin’s Skunk Works advanced projects division has shared all new information about its stealthy Collaborative Combat Aircraft (CCA) type drone design named Vectis, which it first unveiled a year ago. One of the most intriguing details is the true nature of its air inlet configuration, pointing to the... premium on survivability the Skunk Works has placed on its CCA offering, especially when compared to other CCA designs. Vectis has a far more exotic, deeply recessed “submerged” top-mounted air intake than was originally disclosed when Vectis first came out of the shadows. This further underscores the heavy emphasis Skunk Works says it has been placing on its CCA’s ability to stay undetected and live to fight another day. The intake location would seem to possibly auto adjust for longitudinal static stability as speed increases. The more air pulled in the more air pressure is lowered over the top of the airframe.

Lockheed Martin's Advanced Development Programs (ADP), also known more colloquially as Skunk Works, has unveiled a new, high-end stealth drone for the U.S. Air Force’s Collaborative Combat Aircraft (CCA) Program, dubbed Vectis. According to TWZ, Vectis is designed to be highly adaptable to an operator’s requirements, whether they be in the United States or in other partner countries around the world, with the first variant expected to take flight by 2028. “Meet Vectis, a Group 5, survivable, lethal, and reusable, Collaborative Combat Aircraft that embodies not only our pedigree in [crewed] fighter aircraft, autonomy, and uncrewed systems, but [that] is also enabled by that Agile Drone Framework,” O.J. Sanchez, Lockheed Martin Vice President and General Manager of Skunk Works, told The War Zone and other media outlets this past week. “Vectis will provide U.S. and allied warfighters with range, endurance, and multi-mission flexibility, including air-to-air, air-to-surface, and ISR [Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance].”

I know that this aircraft has the capability. It is a little too small of an aircraft for the current situation, however, we have such a place for an aircraft and we have ordered 200 plus aircraft of this type...We need to focus more towards the Mark 2 (aircraft) and Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) programme. We have the capacity and capability within the country to achieve this. Everybody has to come together to make it a success..."

The Lockheed A-12 Oxcart, developed by Lockheed's legendary Skunk Works under the codename "Archangel," first flew in 1962 for the CIA as a top-secret reconnaissance aircraft. Built almost entirely from titanium, it could cruise above Mach 3 at altitudes over 85,000 ft (26 km)—fast and high enough to outrun enemy interceptors and surface-to-air missiles. This is the legendary spy plane taxiing out before unleashing its raw power on takeoff. The grandfather of the Blackbird still looks futuristic over 60 years later.

Figma stock dropping as investors start to price in a new kind of threat. Not just another design tool… but design generated from a prompt. Adobe stock also lower on the news.

BREAKING: For 10 years the world believed there was one way to reuse a rocket: land it upright on its engines, the way SpaceX does. Today China refused to copy it, and pulled off something SpaceX never managed on a first flight. It caught the rocket instead. The Long March 10B lifted off from Hainan, China this morning, and about 6 minutes later its first stage came back down toward a 25,000-ton ship at sea. It did not land. Hooks on the falling booster snagged a net of tensioned steel wires strung across the deck, the wires riding robotic rails that slid into place to meet it. No landing legs. No touchdown. A rocket plucked out of its own descent by a moving net, on the maiden flight of a brand-new vehicle. No one handed China this. SpaceX guards its rocket tech as “trade secrets”, not “patents”, precisely so it cannot be read and copied. China watched a decade of public flights and then built an entirely different machine to reach the same prize, catching instead of landing, which sheds the heavy legs and spares the fuel a soft touchdown burns to hover. And this was never about cheaper satellites, though it delivers those too, feeding the thousands of birds in China's Starlink rival. Its deeper purpose is the Moon. That booster shares its core with the rocket meant to land Chinese astronauts on the lunar surface by 2030. In the same season, America's own Moon rocket, Starship, has flown 12 times and still has not shown the single maneuver its lunar plan depends on. One flight does not dethrone SpaceX. It has landed hundreds. What ended today is not SpaceX's lead. It is Uncle Sam’s belief that it owns the only road to the Moon. The piece works out which way of coming home actually wins.
