Yes people have paid money for cards before. But Logan Paul's 16mi view video is a inflection point which skyrocketed prices in over 1000%, and turned hobby collecting into speculative investment that was taken over by scalpers and people who care little about the series.

@Anima_nel The main mistake Pkmn made was introducing Kanto to new players through Lets Go. That should been an opportunity to evolve what we’ve known Kanto as to bring back the original audience in a nostalgic way. That’s why OG fans still feel like they haven’t gotten the game they desire

I lowkey think he only suggested another Kanto Remake so that another TCG Set like Scarlet and Violet 151 would be printed to capitalize on that. It doesn't have to be this but it wouldn't surprise me.
