The judge noted during sentencing that Shires had severely violated a position of trust, noting that her training as a professional should have prevented the boundaries from being broken. She was sentenced to 4 years and 9 months in prison, permanently stripped of her social work license, and ordered to register as a sex offender for 25 years. Mackenzie Naught, a teacher in Whitman County, Washington, was reportedly friends with the boy's family. She allegedly pressured the teen to meet up with her in the middle of the night.
