Look at this 😳 The storm currently raging over the Mediterranean is making history right now. ⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️ Off the coast of Antibes – Monaco it has turned into a true lightning bomb. Countless flashes, sometimes more than one per second. But the real madness started a few hours ago...

Last night, a rare and destructive "mesocyclone" erupted over the Mediterranean, generating an absolute lightning storm! Nearly 30,000 strikes were recorded within a narrow corridor in a very short time! ⚡️ 🌪️ Radar data clearly confirms the severity: According to Météo-France (Collobrières) radar outputs, reflectivity reached extreme levels of 60–65+ dBZ in the core. The pronounced "Hook Echo" on the southern flank demonstrates how the rotation was wrapping heavy precipitation and giant hail around itself 🚨 This signature is direct proof of severe microbursts, large hail, and strong waterspout/tornado potential over the sea. It’s a massive stroke of luck that this core remained largely offshore!

We got caught in this at my sister’s wedding near Hyères last night, I was telling anyone who would listen that if this storm structure happened on the high plains in May it’d drop an EF-2 - EF-4 tornado. Look at the inflow notch on this bad boy!! Did reanalysis when I got home

Spot on analysis! That inflow notch on the radar was looking absolute nasty, classic supercell behavior.

Dude we were up on a hill overlooking the bay and I was pumped to the point of shouting about seeing the actual effective inflow layer feeding the storm! Then all of a sudden the inflow by us got cut off… and it all hit the fan! can’t believe my only ‘26 stormchase was in France

A level 3 was issued mainly for very large hail, damaging gusts and heavy rain. Numerous extreme events are forecast. In addition an intense tornado risk exists.

Would this have caused sudden air turbulence on a flight from menorca to Manchester on Sunday morning? Never felt anything like it thought the plane was going to blow upside down!! Thanks

The specific storm in my post peaked saturday night and dissipated near Corsica shortly after. However, the overall atmospheric instability over the Western Mediterranean remained high, spawning new storm cells on sunday. So while it wasn't this exact system, Sunday's setup was directly responsible for the severe turbulence you experienced!

🚨🌪️SUPERCELL TORNADO IN FRANCE! THE ATMOSPHERE EXPLODED AFTER 5 HEAT DOMES! Today, a powerful supercell thunderstorm produced a large and spectacular tornado in France’s Aude department, south of Carcassonne. The footage is absolutely shocking. 🌪️ A massive Supercell Tornado swept through the Aude (Limoux) region in Southern France, leaving severe structural damage in its path. Estimated wind speeds exceeded 150 mph (240 km/h - EF2+/EF3 intensity), ripping roofs off buildings and creating viral shockwaves online. ✍️But why now? France and the Mediterranean region have experienced 5 major heat domes/heat episodes this summer. Weeks of extreme heat helped leave the lower atmosphere exceptionally warm and moisture-rich, contributing to a large reservoir of convective energy (CAPE). Then the atmospheric pattern changed: 🔥 Hot & humid air ⬇️ ⚡ High CAPE ⬇️ 🌬️ Strong wind shear ⬇️ ⛈️ Rotating supercell / mesocyclone ⬇️ 🌪️ TORNADO But there is an important distinction: Heat domes do NOT directly create tornadoes. However, after prolonged extreme heat, the arrival of a strong atmospheric system can bring together the ingredients needed for severe convection: heat, moisture, instability and strong wind shear. So this is not: “The heat dome created the tornado.” It is better described as: “The prolonged heat helped load the atmosphere with energy, and when a powerful storm system arrived, the environment became favorable for a tornadic supercell.” And today’s tornado in southern France is a striking example of how extreme summer heat and severe convection can become part of the same meteorological story. 🌡️🔥 → ⛈️ → 🌪️ Europe’s extreme summer is showing another dangerous side. #France #Tornado #Supercell #HeatDome #ExtremeWeather #Weather #Climate #Tornadoes #Meteorology #フランス #竜巻 #ヒートドーム

You have 100 dollars and you want 200. Betting red one dollar at a time, your chance is one in 33,171. Betting the whole 100 on a single spin, it is 47.4 percent. The careful version is fifteen thousand times worse. This is also the arithmetic of your trading account, and it means almost everything you have been taught about managing risk is, in the strict mathematical sense, a method for losing more reliably. An MIT professor works this out on a blackboard in a lecture on random walks. The result is called gambler's ruin. Two and a half points of disadvantage is nothing on one spin. But a dollar at a time you are not making one spin, you are making hundreds, and the edge gets a fresh attempt at you on every one of them. It was never the size of the disadvantage. It is the number of times you agree to face it. One hundred on red, once: 47.4 percent. Twenty dollar bets: 37.3 percent. Five dollar bets: 11.1 percent. One dollar bets: 0.003 percent. Mathematicians call the right answer bold play. It was proved optimal for unfavourable games in 1965. It is not a strategy for winning. It is the least ruinous way to play a game you should not be in. If your edge after spread and fees is negative, and for most active retail accounts it is, then your position sizing rule is not protecting you. Risking one percent per trade is the one dollar bet. It arrives at zero with near certainty, just politely, over a longer period, with a spreadsheet. Discipline does not beat a negative edge. It schedules it. All of this reverses if you have a real edge. Then small and frequent is correct and bold play is madness. So the only question that has ever mattered is whether you have one, and the number of people certain they do has never resembled the number who do. Your broker does not need you to be wrong. It needs you to be frequent.

MONEY OUT – MIGRANTS IN EU proposes Erasmus for Africa and more EU-MENA integration. Ursula von der Leyen last week proposed a connected “Common Mediterranean Space” as part of a Pact for the Mediterranean. The initiative builds on the Barcelona Process launched in the 90’s and proposes that all European taxpayers fund projects benefitting the region while migrants from Morocco, Egypt and Tunisia will be welcomed to Europe under the guise of student exchanges. “Legal pathways for labour migration” from Africa and the Middle East will increase and so called “talent partnerships” will be scaled up. The pact consists of three parts: exchanges of people (read: one way tickets to Europe), trade and investment (for example in renewables, clean tech and something called a “regenerative blue economy”) and security / migration management. This point is deceptively tailored to win conservative support. But it is nothing else than an opening of more doors to Europe, for potentially millions from Africa and the Middle East. The clue is in what the Commission promises to promote: “a whole-of-route approach to migration management”. The Pact will also be a stepping stone to increase EU cooperation with partners beyond the Southern Mediterranean, including the Gulf, Sub-Saharan Africa, the Western Balkans as well as Türkiye. The Commission describes stepping up cooperation between the EU, the Middle East and North Africa, and the Gulf region as “a key objective of the Pact.” To make it permanent, Brussels is creating a new bureaucracy in the Commission, the Directorate-General for the Middle East, North Africa and the Gulf - DG MENA. The Pact is proposed for political endorsement by the EU and southern Mediterranean partners in November 2025 on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the Barcelona process. What can you do? Contact representatives in your national parliament and politely ask them to instruct their government NOT TO APPROVE ERASMUS FOR AFRICA AND THE PACT FOR THE MEDITERRANEAN. Contact your Members of the European Parliament and tell them to OPPOSE ERASMUS FOR AFRICA AND THE PACT FOR THE MEDITERRANEAN in every way possible. This Pact is a Council decision but the European Parliament will vote on whether to allocate money for this pact – ask your representative to commit to vote NO when the proposed doubling of funding the region to €42 billion comes up for a vote. The Commission speaks of “One Sea, One Pact, One Future” – but I want the future of Europe to be European. If you agree, share this video.

The Black Sea & Eastern Mediterranean CFD-V1. State 1 to State 2 [1] over a nine-hour period (plus one hour of settling time). During the initial acceleration northwards, the water retreats to the south. Shortly after we move over the geographic north pole, the deceleration sets in, and centrifugal forcing is reversed by ±180° - the departed water returns, inundating much of Ukraine - home to considerable coal, gas, and marine sedimentary deposits. Orange markers are marine fossils. Blue/Pink markers are salt deposits. The water levels during the second phase of this simulation are lower than would be expected in reality. More than 50% of the fluid volume is lost over the Sahara to the south and leaves the simulation domain. Some of this volume would have returned during the deceleration, but is not accounted for here (this is therefore likely a conservative outcome for this scenario). A further >45% is lost to the north, leaving <5% of the original simulation domain volume. Depth, velocity, precursor- and primary-flows are visualised as follows: Depth: greyscale shading of the fluid volume. Whiter is deeper. Velocity: blue-white-red graded shading of the particle system. Precursor (thin) Flows: leading the main volume may be seen as little 'sparkles' at the head of the inundation. These provide clues as to incursion potential. Primary (heavy) Flows: white particle flows which provide a sense of volume distribution in the simulation. Pooling: Dark grey areas on land indicate pooled water. Please note that this is a physically informed visualisation of the primary (acceleration) and secondary (centrifugal) forcings only. Lunar tidal forcing is not accounted for, as it is temporally unpredictable, and of negligible effect by comparison to those under consideration. Possible overflows from the Arctic and North Sea are not modelled. Presented in 4K resolution with DEM (GEBCO bathymetry) and Google Satellite imagery. This is not a predictive safety indicator. It is a passable, evidence-supported approximation of flow direction and extent for the theorised rotation. I may iterate this solution one more time (each taking approximately a week) to improve the detail, but the agreement with existing geological, archaeological, and cultural accounts seems good at this point.
