All you need to know about Michael Jackson is that he repeatedly defended, on record and on camera, his practice of sharing his bedroom and sometimes his bed with minor children who were not his own. He repeatedly defended this practice, often calling it a “beautiful thing.” Here are just two examples of him doing so on camera. It is not appropriate for a grown man to share a bedroom or bed with a child who is not his own. It is not appropriate for a grown man to have friendships with 12-year-olds. It is not even appropriate for a grown man to have repeated, extended conversations with 12-year-olds who are not their relatives and without their parents present. And don’t give me this “you don’t understand his childhood” BS, which is manipulative. Plenty of people have their childhood stolen away from them and don’t spend years justifying sharing a bedroom/bed with someone else’s kids. This is how sexual predators talk about their inappropriate and often criminal relationships with children.

Two boys in Alabama heard that a 77-year-old woman in their neighborhood was missing and decided to go look for her themselves. They found her. Not the search party, not a helicopter, not a drone. Two kids who decided it was their problem too. That is what community actually looks like, and these kids are models for it. Two young men who saw something wrong and actually did something about it. Their parents should be proud!
