Do you feel sorry for the crocodile that failed to catch the duck, or relieved that the duck escaped? Most people breathe a sigh of relief for the duck. I think this is quite normal. Humans tend to sympathize with the weak and always see things from the perspective of the vulnerable.

Today I finished building a front yard pond. I started 14 months ago. It's gone thru 20 different designs, took me that long to get it to hold water without crashing apart. Everyone on our street and in the area offered ideas or rocks! [& a duck!]. A fun community effort.

Enjoy a few tranquil moments from a large beaver dam in Spring 2023. One of the highlights is a wolf standing on the dam watching an eagle swoop down trying to catch a duck...pretty neat! The footage, except the opening sequence, is chronological and shows how melting snow and run-off caused this dam to blow and the pond to drain, despite the beavers’ best efforts. By early summer, beavers had clearly abandoned this pond, most of the water had drained, and the pond was a fertile meadow with lush green grass growing in it. And we would have had more footage to include in this compilation but a few black bears had other plans for our camera...

Me, walking by the canal this evening. For those people wondering how I get these shots, it’s very easy; I have trained a duck who is flying behind me and then down into the water and then up and then down again. It takes years to train them to do this and isn’t easy.
