Graph Convolutional Network by hand ✍️ ~ 12 steps walkthrough below Graph Convolutional Networks (GCNs), introduced by Thomas Kipf and Max Welling in 2017, are the tool for data shaped like a graph: social networks, recommendations, biological networks, drug discovery, molecular chemistry. I drew and calculated a simple GCN entirely by hand. Goal: run a two-layer GCN, then a small classifier, on a five-node graph, filling in every cell yourself. 1. Given A graph of five nodes, A to E, with edges between some of them. 2. Adjacency matrix (neighbors) Put a 1 wherever two nodes share an edge, in both directions. 3. Adjacency matrix (self) Add 1s down the diagonal, one self-loop per node. That is just adding the identity matrix. 4. Messages Multiply each node's embedding by the weights and biases, then ReLU. Negatives become 0. 5. Pooling Multiply the messages by the adjacency matrix. Each node gathers the messages of its neighbours and itself. 6. Visualize Node A pools [3,0,1] + [1,0,0] = [4,0,1]. 7. Second GCN layer Messages again: weights, biases, ReLU. 8. Pooling again Pool over each node and its neighbours, once more. 9. Visualize Node C pools [1,2,4] + [1,3,5] + [0,0,1] = [2,5,10]. 10. Fully connected layer Weights, biases, ReLU. This time there are no neighbours to pool, just the node itself. 11. Linear layer One more: weights and biases. 12. Sigmoid Squash each score to a probability (≥ 3 → 1, 0 → 0.5, ≤ -3 → 0). That is the classification for each node. You have just classified every node in the graph by hand. ✍️ The outputs: A: 0 (very unlikely) B: 1 (very likely) C: 1 (very likely) D: 1 (very likely) E: 0.5 (neutral) The takeaway: a GCN layer is two parts. The top part pools each node with its neighbours through the adjacency matrix. The bottom part is an MLP that transforms each node on its own. A transformer layer has the same two parts, with an attention matrix where the adjacency matrix was. Both matrices do one job, mixing across positions: attention over tokens, adjacency over nodes. In my class I call the GCN the transformer's little cousin: a bit more stubborn, because its attention is fixed by the graph rather than computed from Q, K, and V. ✨ I made a 100% AI video of a single night in 🇩🇪 Berlin's underground techno scene Doing an AI shoot is very much like a real life shoot, you have to prepare locations, settings, outfits and models, you can do the same: 1) First I generated photos with the [ 🇩🇪 Berlin nightlife ] photo pack on they're all non-existing AI people except me and my gf 2) Then I put the pics I liked in Kling AI to make them into 10 second videos (with Professional Mode), soon I'll have API access and it'll be one-click inside Photo AI to turn a photo into a 10-sec video, it then takes about 5 minutes to make a video. It's not always great, especially dancing is hard to get right! 3) Then I wanted to have a German narrator talking about Berlin's techno nights in a poetic way like a documentary, so I asked ChatGPT 4o: "write in the style of a cult German novelist about the Berlin techno scene" I then copied that text into Eleven Labs and selected a German AI voice 4) I then collected all the videos, the music and the audio narrator and edited them together in Final Cut Pro adding music from HÖR and adding audio effects 5) Then I added English captions with CapCut Time to make it: 3 hours for 1 minute of video I hope you like it! My dream is to have this entire pipeline in Photo AI at some point. Connecting to Kling AI's video API is the first step to that. Analysis: What Pakistan claimed was a downed Indian UAV was, in fact, a Pakistani AWACS/ELINT aircraft 🇵🇰 destroyed by India’s S-400 🇮🇳, at a record-breaking range. 1) On 7–8 May, Pakistani authorities admitted that an object had crashed near Jhand Village, Dinga (Gujrat). Their media and officials quickly framed it as the downing of an Indian UAV. But the facts don’t add up 👇 2) Crash-site visual analysis shows: • Flame height: 8–12 m • Fire footprint: 1,500–2,500 m² Such intensity = an aviation fuel pool fire, indicating thousands of liters of jet fuel which can only be carried by a large aircraft. A small UAV typically carries only 200–500 L, which cannot generate this scale or duration of fire. 3) Reports also confirmed S-400 missile debris recovered in the region. Long range SAMs are not usually fired at small UAVs. This strongly suggests the target was a high-value, large aircraft, not a drone. 4) Pakistan routinely parades captured Indian wreckage. But this time, despite loud claims, no debris from the crash site was ever shown. The “UAV” story was pushed, but never backed with physical evidence. 5) A notable silence: Pakistan loves to present aircraft tallies after conflicts. This time, they avoided it. They could have easily countered claims by displaying their AWACS/ELINT fleet on parade, but they did not. Nor did they present a fighter jet tally. Open-source evidence indicates Pakistan lost at least six aircraft in the air and several more on the ground: • UAVs at Sukkur • AWACS & other aircraft at Bholari • F-16s in Jacobabad 6) Assessment: • Crash admitted by Pakistan • False UAV cover story • S-400 fragments recovered in same region • Visual evidence from site proving a large jet • Unusual silence on fleet strength
