This is only going to encourage people to pirate those shows. People are not going to subscribe to 3-4 different streaming services just to watch their favorite shows.

zach and micheal saw the writing on the wall with hbo max. If your show is popular, they want a million seasons, if not, they delete the IP from their library. Rip Close Enough and the other shows too. Rick and Morty is Hbo’s dried up cow now.

HBO MAX before David was actually the best streaming platform and once he took over it basically became the worst

The thing is streamers do make money. The problem is none of these dipshit executive like Zaslov have the stomach to take a loss for a few years building a platform like Netflix does. They want returns now. So you just have a streaming service nobody uses because no content

This is how TV has worked since the 60’s. Paramount made Frasier for NBC despite owning CBS. Universal made House do FOX despite owning NBC etc., it’s less common in kids networks but even then it’s not unheard of.

Seriously, David has been an absolute bane to Warner Bros. and the merger was a mistake. Not to mention the awful decisions that happened in WB Games, I mean look at what happened to Multiversus.

@emeraldappul It's the same reason why I don't understand why they don't do more physical releases and theaterical releases along side releasing it on streaming (movie releasing on a later date of course)

who's that handsome poster in the beginning

are you one of the storyboard artists that signed this for me 10ish years ago?

Its not as stupid as you think; this is how licensing rights have always worked out through entertainment history. The world always saw the most random shows or movies being produced, shown, made or bought out by other companies

Streamers DO make money, that's literally why Netflix, Hulu, and Prime are able to see a return. They built a platform sufficient to be a juggernaut brand. Execs want return on investment before a project is even completed, and, frankly, that doesn't work. Zaslav saw a streamer -

When they took all my favorite shows off of HBO, I quickly unsubscribe

The only streamers that have kept their content exclusive for the most part have been Netflix, Disney/Hulu and Apple. They know that their content is what keeps people coming back. Paramount, HBO and Peacock have made content for other streamers, it’s ridiculous

Thank you for sharing. I find all this wild. I’m still in awe of how Discovery was buying up everything at one point.

Short answer

In Spain we dont have Hulu so its more easy because all of Cartoon Network comes to Hbo Max (Not only shows like Fionna and Cake, The Wonderfully Weird World of Gumball is in Hbo Max (And the new Adventure Time Sidequests is also coming the 5 of October to Hbo Max)

its not ridiculous. HBO Max tried kids content multiple times. It didn't work. At least the shows are actually being, well, made

I just let all my streaming accounts cancel. Cuz it’s ridiculous you got to get all these services just to watch your favorite shows just to end up paying more than cable and then they just keep raising the price.

Yea but literally any money made from a streaming service is pretty much profit. I mean how much is put Into upkeep anyway?

This is the business model for Uber, Amazon etc… make your service affordable and easy to use at first (while not being profitable) put all competitors that can’t take the loss out of business… your customers are now dependent on you as the last option.. raise prices

Unfortunately it’s not supposed to make money. Yes in the short term and to the corporations it is but what streaming should be is like the library of Alexandria with tv and movies. Sad another degradation of society when we can’t even watch cartoons correctly anymore

Buy physical media!

she must not know how much streaming makes from ADs

“Streaming doesn’t make any money” well they should’ve thought about that before they phased out physical media 💀

So everyone making their own platform is starting to backfire. I expected this.

This explains everything now. Having multiple streaming services account to watch everything from a single franchise.

She’s doesn’t know what she’s talking about. The business model has not changed. It may look different now because the way we access entertainment has changed. Her explanation on how a series makes a profit is skewed, and I am willing to bet that it is due to some sort of grievance during her time at the company.

It’s very frustrating that seemingly anything really good these days for some reason it has to be freaking locked behind a streaming platform

God help us all.

Long story short we gotta bbq David Zaslav

David gotta go

Adam’s Apple check stop ✋

The streaming mandate predates Zaslav. He actually tried to fix this once the merger happened. Warner Bros died the day when Time Warner happened. Ever since then it’s been downhill.

Because all dreams start the same way. Fueled by inspirations to mend consumer problems, after success, the model is adjusted to exploit the consumer for maximum profit due to greed.. it’s all cyclical
