The more likely scenario is that these nerds made a company to spy on people and just liked Lord of the Rings.

They named if after the Palantir Stone - no such thing as coincidences.

There’s another company that also works with the US military that uses lord of the rings naming and imagery. Anduril the military contractor is named after the sword used by Isildur to cut the ring from Saurons hand. The Anduril logo is shaped like the pommel of the sword. The rabbit hole goes deeper.
