Imagine getting a 3,200 square foot home, fully custom made for your needs, by one of the greatest architects of all time, for less than half a million dollars. Full story at NPR.

Incredible. Roland Reisley is 101 years old, the last original client of Frank Lloyd Wright. He still lives in the 3,200 square foot home that Wright built for him in 1952. The price? $40,000. Or a little less than half a million in today's money.

Looking at the size of this place as well as the gent's age, I DO wonder how he keeps the house in good shape, knowning that maintenance, repair work and keeping things in good running order are not the most obvious the older the house gets - ESPECIALLY when nature has this tendency to creep in and 'reclaim' its natural place. Must cost quite a bit to keep it looking that good. It's interesting and fortunate indeed, that this man is in such good shape. I DO wonder if he has good and easy access to a doctor and hospital and if so, someone who can drive him there (unless he still is able to steer his own vehicle). It always looks so well-presented in such clips but the work around the house as well as inside surely isn't cheap. Things wear out and DO need repair, fixing and replacing. The bigger the house, the more work it entails. 'Nature' and its seasons also inevitably bear down on a house.

to be able to say there wasn't a day in my life where I didn't see something beautiful here...that's the goal right there

Also jeeeez pls give us all the cognitive abilities of this guy at 100!

Thanks for these wonderful posts. What a dream of a house. I’d move there in an instant. Love the owner’s thoughts on the peace found in beautiful and simple things.

Awareness of beauty over a long period of time reduces stress. I like that ❤️

Falling Water in PA. I want to live there in my dream life.

Beautiful home and story. I finally visited the awe-inspiring Frank Lloyd Wright's "Fallingwater" house, a UNESCO world heritage site about 90 minutes drive from my hometown of Pittsburgh, PA. It is a true piece of heaven. The cantilevered structure home is situated on top of a waterfall, which flows underneath it, and combines nature into the architectural design. Wright originally designed Fallingwater in 1935 as a home for the Kaufmann family, owners of Pittsburgh's largest department store. The local @PBS station @WETA in Pittsburgh did a story on it. Watch here:

Nature, human beings and architecture realize some kind of continuous and harmonious interaction..this is the feeling that I have been pursuing in my heart. Thank you for sharing! Also, such a house is more beneficial to your physical and mental health.

Mexican Architect Luis Barragan said same thing about living in beauty. He wanted to "habituate" one to beauty in his house & garden designs.

Doesn’t look very walkable..!

That guy is 101? Excuse me?

He's also in incredible shape! Looks and sounds to be in his 80s.

Wright imported Japanese stuff (scarves, prints, ephemera) and adorned his showrooms with it. Rich clients asked for pieces and he obliged. Someone figured out that he made more $$ selling the Japanese doodads than designing houses (for some later stretch of his career).

Both he and his home are amazing! 😊

Wonderful. So lucid for a man of 100, too.

Is this in a walkable neighborhood?

He speaks the truth about beauty and stress. Such a shame we don’t have much of this architecture today.

He's still in such great mental and physical health! Obviously the benefit of living in nature vs the city.

what an incredible house!! the way it's blended into nature is exquisite.

Great house but an even more amazing owner.

Doesn’t look like a very walkable neighborhood 😜

Wow 101?! I'd mistake him for early 80s

Major goals

Usonia is beautiful, my father grew up there and the Reisley house is spectacular. All my love to Roland, may he live forever!

You had one job Frank: make a roof that doesn't leak.

Epic story. But where is the walkable neighbourhood?

amen and amen 🙌🏾

Wow - this is in my neck-of-the-woods! So very cool.

Lord bless us all, what a dream!

👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

You don't want this house. I'm sure it leaks. Then you'll have mold issues, etc.

Thank you so much for sharing this.

❤️a truly beautiful place !

Though that area doesn't seem the most walkable. I mean, you can walk, but you won't get to anywhere useful.
