Our snow plow crews have been working hard from Lake Tahoe to as low as Foresthill to keep our roads clear. Today, we were out at the Alta/Dutch Flat area capturing one of our Placer County snow plows in action! ❄️🚜 When the snow is cold, heavy and wet like it’s been this week, plowing can be especially challenging, and it can take multiple passes to fully clear the road. No matter the conditions, our crews are working around the clock to Keep Placer Moving. If you see them out there, give them plenty of space and a wave! 👋

Lady Bird’s first snow! 🐘❄️ As temps rose above freezing today, some of our animals stepped out to explore the snow. Lady Bird found her own snowy mound and looked to be having a blast! While she played, our Zoo crew worked hard clearing ice and snow from paths and boardwalks. While progress was made, more work is still needed before we feel that we can safely reopen, so we will remain closed tomorrow, Wednesday Jan. 28. We appreciate your patience and can’t wait to welcome you back! 💙

More Snow White Outrage: Some conservatives are now melting down because the new Snow White changed a bit from the 1937 version. It is now a story which teaches young girls to be true leaders in the world instead of "finding true love". Rachel Zegler said: "It's not 1937. She’s not gonna be saved by the prince and she’s not going to be dreaming about true love. She’s dreaming about becoming the leader she knows she can be." As a father with a young daughter, I teach her that she can be anything she wants to be if she really wants it. I put focus on her being happy by forging her own path rather pressuring her to find true love. In 1937 just 24% of women were in the workforce. Most were forced to stay home and never pursue their ambitions. Imagine telling your kid that they can't see Snow White because you don't approve of Snow White's race or the message within the movie. Way to go Disney.

Scenes for the next few days watch till the end. It’s been 10+ years since I’ve been professionally into off-roading and rallying, and even today I admit driving in snow still scares me. You can’t “master” snow driving overnight. Snow driving needs skills, patience, and a deep understanding of your vehicle throttle control, braking, weight transfer. Sadly, this is something many drivers from UP, HR, PB simply don’t understand. Let me be very clear an Audi or expensive car won’t save you. It’s painful to watch, and trust me, most traffic jams happen because of this exact mindset. If you’re not confident, stop on the uphills, park safely, hire local drivers, and enjoy the experience. Why ruin it for everyone else? Honestly, authorities should ban 4x2 vehicles in snow conditions! 🙏🏻

This afternoon, we set up a roadblock on the Mountain Highway off-ramp, stopping vehicles that had snow on top of their vehicles. In just an hour, we pulled over about 45 drivers, gave them a friendly warning, and even lent them a brush to clear off their frosty rooftops. Friendly reminder: Leaving snow on your vehicle—including the windshield, windows, and roof—isn’t just a bad look, it’s a hazard for everyone on the road. Oh, and it could also land you a $173 fine. So, let’s keep it clean out there!

At this point, fleeting cold air on Tuesday will limit how much snow can actually accumulate — but several key questions with this system still remain. Here’s my early breakdown: 🟩 Zone 1 – ALL RAIN (Green Zone) Climatology + temperature profiles strongly favor a pure rain event for Coastal NJ and Long Island. 🩷 Zone 2 – SNOW ➜ MIX ➜ RAIN (Pink Zone) This will be the trickiest area. Some cold air will be available early, allowing wet snow to mix with rain going to pure rain. If the storm strengthens a bit more, dynamic cooling could support brief, very wet accumulations, especially N&W of NYC. ⬜ Zone 3 – Wet Snow / Mixing (White Zone) A quick thump of wet snow Tuesday with low snow ratios — making this a heavy, sloppy snow. General 3–4" expected, with isolated 4"+ possible in higher elevations along and north of I-80 and into the Hudson Valley. This is how I see things right now. Savannah was celebrating New Year's Eve with her mother. It was a bittersweet night their first New Year without her father, who had passed away recently. Savannah had twisted it many times before, and it never worked. The fact that it started playing on its own left Savannah and her mother frozen. And the most chilling part? That snow globe had belonged to her late father. It was as if, in that moment, he was there with them, celebrating one last New Year.
