Ossoff: Let's be very clear about what the president is saying to the American people. The president is saying that he will not sign a bill whose purpose is to make housing affordable unless his allies in congress pass a voter suppression bill to rig the election. He is saying, I won't even sign a bill that will give economic relief to Americans unless the rules of this election are changed so that he, Donald Trump, cannot be held accountable for all of his misdeeds because that's what he really fears most of all is that when there is a change in the balance of power, and when we restore checks and balances, he knows that there will be subpoenas flying that officials from his administration will be testifying under oath about the full range of misconduct and corruption that we already know has been happening since the moment he was sworn in.

MacFarlane: Trump has acknowledged over the past 48 hours that prices are going to go higher again because of the renewed fighting in the Middle East. And that’s a big problem for him and a big problem for Republicans on the ballot in November. Because Trump is already underwater when it comes to prices and the economy. And if prices go higher as we get closer to an election, that’s not just underwater. It’s like the S.S. Minnow crashing onto the island, and Gilligan, the Skipper, the Howells, Ginger, and Mary Ann have no political lifeboats. They are stuck on that ship as it crashes. Over the past nine and a half months or so, Donald Trump has continually claimed that we are in a golden age of America, that we brought in $18 trillion via tariffs. But most of the macroeconomic indicators are not looking too good. For example, you can look at unemployment. It's up. Inflation is up. Americans are struggling. You can just talk to anybody about it. And the problem is trump is now just throwing out the word affordability like that's going to fix anything. Last night he was on Fox News and they read him a post from one of his supporters, a three time trump voter and the three time trump voter was like, listen, we're struggling here. Main street does not reflect wall street, and it's bad. And trump's answer was no. Prices are down except for beef. He essentially is gaslighting and saying prices are down.

Signing legislation to make housing more affordable would undermine that narrative by acknowledging millions of Americans are struggling. For Trump, protecting his ego has always mattered more than solving people's problems.

It is a bill that threatens $300 billion in cuts to food assistance, it is a bill that puts health care further out of reach for nearly 14 million people. It is a bill that will make it so families have to choose between putting food on the table or filling a prescription. It is a bill that does nothing to lower costs or address the housing crisis

Donald Trump going to Texas and Indiana and Florida and Missouri and telling them to get as many seats as possible. He's not telling them, go defend the big, brutal bill that he passed. He's not telling them to defend the deportation policies that are dividing and deporting our friends and neighbors. He's saying, just make it harder for the Democrats to win next November. So I'm not going to wake up the day after the election and look at democracy in ashes and say, well, at least we protected California's independent redistricting commission
