The prisoners made $325k a bin?

Still don’t know for sure.

Why were they so ridiculously insanely expensive if they were made by prisoners?

If the bins were built in a prison in Mount Gambier, can we solve the mystery of how they’re costing $13 million dollars? 🧐

We aren’t sure of anything yet. However think we will find that most of that money will be actually for advertising.

Keep pushing David.

Couldn't even give the job to Victorians!!

Wait so the money that was used to buy these bins went where?

We still don’t know.

Can an foi request be lodged in parliment to provide the invoices and payments?

@_davidlimbrick Ive already lodged one and got an answer, I responded on another twitter post. the cost of the bins themselves each was only $2800, the $13million relates to the cost of the whole campaign on the vicpol departmental budget, so it includes campaign ads, managing exemptions etc

@_davidlimbrick So lots of beuracratic lining of pockets

Where/who did the ~$13 million figure come from? If the bins have been made in a prison, the odds narrow of it just being gross governmental/bureaucratic incompetence and private sector opportunism, and it not being out and out fraud being committed from within @JacintaAllanMP's administration. It makes you wonder if the whole stupid amnesty bin idea was borne out of incompetence or malevolence.

They have been renamed , they are now called diversity blades, we should be calling them the diversity blade bins.

Not sure if it’s true or not

It's disgraceful that there is no transparency over something that should be so basic as the manufacturing of these bins! It's because they cannot account for or justify the $13mil of taxpayers money on these machete bins! There needs to be accountability!

The cost of each bin was only $2800, PPO confirmed this in my foi response. the $13mil comprises of the whole campaign cost so incl advertising, managing exemptions to the ban, community education & secure destruction of the machetes plus transport/install/maintenance of the bins

Can you show the foi response?

If prisoners made them they shouldnt have cost 13 million then. Labor have done a dodgy & been busted by the looks of it.

Dan Andrews is a consultant for the company that got the contract. Nuff said

300k+ per bin, probably a 3mm steel box, a massive theft going on here even if you got them made by the most expensive place around, now it turns out they may have been made in prison for free (still taxpayers money) well there is a big crime being committed by politicians here, this should be a police or asio matter but unfortunately they’re corrupt too! all the best and I hope you find out because the people deserve to know who is stealing from them.

Good on you David. Off topic but I love the rehabilitation aspect of prisoners learning useful trades.

So far, SA prisoners may be making machete bins for Victorian criminals to give up their weapons? Is Victoria broke & can't afford anyone in their state? Do the criminals get paid a dollar a day? How do the payments work?

The ultimate money laundering scam. Where did the fuckn money go????? If people aren’t questioning the price tag of 325k per bin (which is the cost of a rural firetruck) then we are lost. @RoyalCommission

I heard that they were made by Visy

Political parties are stealing tax payers' money🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺 it happens all over the western world nothing new🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺

Have you seen the new “kids” book? 🤣

This is a massive money laundering exercise that benefited South Australia looks like

😅... the saga continues ha ha

Love your work David - Keep asking the questions the government don't want to answer.

It all just got a little bit Shawshank Redemption. Where's the Minister's 2nd set of books I wonder?

Who pocketed the money? That is the question on everyone's lips.

Haha this is going to be good.

Any number on how many machetes have been handed in so far?

The secrecy surrounding the manufacturing of these bins is rather suspicious. It seems to be hiding a lack of a proper government tender process and an inflated price and maybe hiding who was involved and who profited. This lack of transparency appears to be an ALP policy now.

I’m a little disappointed that you, so called, elected representatives think this is a joke - a true representative government would provide full details of all spending and allow the electorate to decide your remuneration packages.

And whey did they cost that exorbitant amount?

Could've got them done in Dandy on the cheap. $13,000,000 down the shifter

And the price of $325000 each multiply 40 =$13million A bit excessive would you not say

@_davidlimbrick Have they give an update on how many machetes have been returned to the bins

The prisoners must be getting paid treble time. What Union are they in?
