The Sacramento Kings could've declined Keon Ellis' team option and locked him up on a long-term deal above the minimum. They'll have all season to sign him to an extension and avoid unrestricted free agency. Kings have more tax flexibility by keeping Ellis at $2.3 million.

Well for one, they can use the cap room they’re saving to sign other free agents potentially. Which they would have had a real difficult time doing if they had declined the option & signed him to an extension today. AND they stillllll can sign him to an extension in the future.
