Even though we often say “Magellan sailed around the world,” he never completed the trip. He was killed in the Philippines in 1521. The voyage was finished by Juan Sebastián Elcano, whose ship Victoria returned to Spain in 1522 with only 18 survivors out of about 270 men.

Usually, portuguese take credit of this expedition because Maguellan was portuguese Just like italians take credit of Colombus's trip But Both Maguellan and Colombus were serving the crown of Castille. They were funded by spanish people and queen Isabella I of Castille

Magellan started it, Elcano achieved it.

The balls in those dudes. Impossible for us to understand now.

Juan Sebastian Elcano.

That is Elcano expedition, not Magellan’s.

Magallanes and Juan Sebastián Elcano made that journey for SPAIN glory.

This is a replica of Victoria

From wooden ships to the edge of the unknown , a brutal journey that proved the world was bigger, rounder, and far more dangerous than anyone imagined

@Erendil16 You mean the Spanish expedition that was organized by Spain, with Spanish sailors and completed by Juan Sebastián Elcano? The funny thing is that Portugal celebrated the anniversary like this country had anything to do with it!

Ferdinand Magellan’s 1519 expedition sought a westward route to Asia. After crossing the Atlantic, finding the Strait of Magellan, and entering the Pacific, Magellan died in the Philippines. One ship, Victoria, returned in 1522, completing humanity’s first circumnavigation.

Magellan?… WTF! It’s Magallanes.

NO. He was killed in the Philippines. So it is NOT “Magellan expedition” It was Elcano who finished it

Elcano expedition in 1 minute.

Magallanes didn’t finish, it was Juan Sebastian Elcano

In 1520, the year the Turks' golden age began, Magellan circumnavigated the globe. The Turks would only become aware of globalization in 1699, when they suffered their first defeat

Nao Victoria

One of my all time favorite books is Stefan Sweig's biography of Magellan. Just the first chapter will explain why the spices were such an expensive commodity (a grain of pepper would cost roughly the same as a house at the time) and why all global powers needed to find routes

Elcano Expedition. Or, at least, Elcano and Magallanes Spanish Expedition😜

Don't forget Juan Sebastian Elcano

@noPSA13 Magallanes + Juan Sebastián Elcano

@grok please explain the importance of Juan Sebastian Elcano on Magallanes' expedition

Was Elcano

Magellan/El Cano: 0:00 to 0:34 El Cano: 0:34 to 1:00

The Spanish Empire was the first global empire in history, a vast network of territories in Europe, America, Africa, and Asia, ruled by Spanish dynasties from the 15th to the early 20th century.

I will say without any doubt, this is the world greatest voyage mankind has ever done as it was the first time ever that the world was circumvented. The world was never the same after Magellan voyage. Definitely, Spain has a very prominent place in the history of the world.

From Seville to Seville ✅

If they had been Brithis, Hollywood would have made 20 movies about it.
