Magellan expedition in 1 minute

When the Victoria put in at Santiago in the Cape Verde Islands on Wednesday 9 July 1522, the Portuguese on shore said it was Thursday, and the ship's daybook was a day behind because it had sailed west with the sun.

After Magellan's fleet left the strait on 28 November 1520 it went three months and twenty days without taking on provisions. The upper and lower gums of the men grew until they could not eat, and nineteen died of that sickness before the ships reached the Ladrones on 6 March 1521.
