Anant Ambani says "We started the wildlife rescue center building in the peak of COVID...We've created a jungle of 600 acres. We created an entire habitat for the elephants and in 2008, we rescued our first elephant. The Greens Zoological Rescue Center started in 2020...We have a total of about 3,000 people working for Green's Zoological Research and Rescue Center. Out of that, we have approximately 20-30 expats. All the expats are in the role of teachers or professors. We take young graduates who have just finished their veterinary graduation from different backgrounds, like nutritionists. We also have some human doctors who are extremely passionate about animals..."

How do you get a cheetah in a crate? Good question! In Somaliland, the Bandit Group - a coalition of five adolescent male cheetahs – is getting ready to move from the ‘cub area’ to a large, new enclosure. And, for the first time since arriving at the Cheetah Rescue and Conservation Centre (CRCC) as young cubs, they will be transported in crates. To prepare the cats, staff at the CRCC have been gradually getting the cheetahs used to the crates they will be using for the relocation. So far, the group is making amazing progress! At least, they seem to like using the crates as furniture! A sanctuary and rehabilitation center for cheetahs rescued from the illegal wildlife trade and cases of human-wildlife conflict, today the CRCC is home to almost 100 cheetahs – including the Bandit Group. An initiative of the Advanced Institute for Wildlife Conservation in collaboration with Tamil Nadu Forest Department, this first-of-its-kind facility is providing advanced veterinary care directly into the field. Equipped with a haematology analyser, serum biochemistry analyser, microscope, centrifuge, refrigerators and a -20°C deep freezer, it enables rapid on-site diagnosis, disease surveillance, forensic investigations and instant diagnostic reports. 😢 A wild Sumatran elephant calf was found injured after being caught in a snare in the Industrial Plantation Forest (HTI) in the Tesso Nilo National Park (TNTN) area, Pelalawan Regency, Riau, on Monday (1/12/2025). After receiving the report, the Wildlife Rescue Unit (WRU) Team from the Riau Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BBKSDA) was deployed to provide assistance to the calf. Head of BBKSDA Riau, Supartono, said the calf was female and approximately 2 years old.

After being rescued by the organization Planting Peace (together with the Brady Hunter Foundation), she is now completely free. Exactly three months ago, we were called to rescue a baby elephant who had become trapped inside a septic tank. This was the sight that greeted our team that night. Working alongside the Kenya Wildlife Service, our team worked late into the night to free little Zuri. Her herd had long since left the area, and she now needed somewhere safe to stay. We flew her to our Nairobi Nursery, where her new chapter began. Zuri has transformed from a shy, frightened wallflower into, well, a bit of a diva. In fact, she’s even giving Kipekee a run for her money! Read a special update on Zuri’s progress:

Estimated to be approximately eight months old at the time of her rescue, Tango was confiscated from a private home, where she had been restrained with a rope around her neck. Since arriving at the Cheetah Rescue and Conservation Centre (CRCC) a little more than a month ago, Tango has gained weight and started playing with toys. It’s heartbreaking to see such a majestic animal enslaved and abused all her life — she’s even blind in her right eye likely due to a bullhook which is how captors keep their elephants are kept in check. Nestled in the Sahyadri ranges of Maharashtra, Bhimashankar Wildlife Sanctuary is home to rare species like the Indian Giant Squirrel (Shekaru), and its nearby villages are inhabited by hundreds of tribal communities. However, this rich ecosystem faces severe threats — from soil erosion to forest fires.
