Now when Avimukteshwaranand ji has openly come out against Yogi ji, not as a saint but like a typical politician, he should be treated purely as a political figure. First, he is not a Shankaracharya, neither legally nor by conduct. He grabbed that sacred seat through tricks, not through tradition or consensus. Second, he is not even a saint. His language and tone are the biggest proof of that. Third, he cannot even be called a neutral spiritual guru. You will always see him on TV debates and political programs, but rarely, if ever, in genuine religious activities. The funniest part is that he is openly supporting Akhilesh Yadav, the same person under whose tenure he was beaten like a criminal. At a farewell lunch in Delhi when I was about to leave for London on my posting as India’s Deputy High Commissioner to the UK in 1999, PM Sh Narendra Modi Ji who was then a private citizen and a Pracharak had promised to visit me in London. That visit couldn’t materialise, but I had the privilege of hosting him during my posting in India at UN, Geneva when he visited Geneva in August 2003 as the Chief Minister of Gujarat to bring back the urn containing the ashes of the freedom fighter and a proud son of India Sh Shyamji Krishna Varma Ji to the motherland. Such was the farsight and focus of PM Modi Ji from the time he was the CM that he not only knew about the ashes but was also determined to fulfil the wish of the great freedom fighter that his and his wife’s and his ashes should be taken to India when it becomes independent. PM Modi Ji is very strong when it comes to honouring the past, and taking pride in our cultural & civilisational heritage.
