Peggy Flanagan, the lieutenant governor of Minnesota, encouraged people to put their bodies on the line. That is irresponsible. Democrats who are encouraging people to obstruct law enforcement, they’re putting them in harm’s way with their rhetoric, and it’s wrong. Republicans shouldn’t do it. Democrats shouldn’t do it. We also have a problem that the Minneapolis police are not allowed to participate – to do crowd control. The encounter between Renee Good and those ICE officers shouldn’t have been – shouldn’t have happened. Minneapolis police should have been there as a buffer, but we don’t have it because Minneapolis ordinances prohibit them from even being there when there’s ICE in coordination. We have to change this. We have to have – Kristi Noem said it this morning – state and local officials need to help ICE do their job, not encourage people to stop them.”

Here is another snippet of my conversation with Ryan James Girdusky. There is a societal cost to enforcing the law and that cost is paid by society through danger to both our law enforcement officers and our civilians. This cost is an inevitability built it to the reality of enforcement and human nature. But America’s officers are very well trained and considering the size of our country and the number of officers or civilians lost during enforcement — we’re very successful at keeping this cost to a minimum. American law enforcement leaders are dedicated to a constant and continuing effort to minimize risks to both officers and civilians. Every life lost in an enforcement operation becomes a learning experience for officers throughout the country. Our law enforcement leaders have done a tremendous job developing training and strategies that have rendered use-of-force tragedies into anomalies. Americans should be very proud of where we are today as far as training of our officers.

In my 15 years on the Toronto Police, I never once asked for permission to investigate anything. I would ask for assistance. I would ask for resources, maybe some advice. I’d even go to the Crown. But I never asked permission because law enforcement officers, sworn officers, don’t have to ask permission. We have set this system up so that officers have independence—autonomy to act as they see fit under the law and their oath of office. And we do that to prevent outside interests from interfering with police officers, individual police officers, and organizations." While one law enforcement death is too many, this is one bright spot — the amount of law enforcement deaths in the line of duty dropped 25% from 2024 to 2025, and that's the lowest number of law enforcement line of duty deaths since 1943. We're very thankful for that, and it matters who's in charge. That's an objective fact and it's a direct correlation to public policy. Republicans are going to continue to pursue legislation that makes officers safer and will also continue to advance transformational policies like No Tax on Overtime, which tens of thousands of law enforcement officers and their families have already benefited from and they're telling us about it when we go home.
