This San Antonio to Philadelphia flight was delayed because this woman refused to put her bag in the overhead bin. 🤯 All of the passengers had to exit the plane they just boarded so police officers could remove this woman from the flight. In what universe do people like this live in? Whether she agreed with the flight attendant or not, grab what you need out of your bag, listen to the attendant and put your bag up like she told you. Then be quiet and let everyone enjoy their flight and be on there way. 💯 Nope- she was combatant and argued with the flight attendants and then would not get off the plane until police officers escorted her off. Have you ever caused a scene on an airplane even if you disagreed with something? Would you ever delay a whole flight over whether your bag can go under the seat in front of you or has to go in the overhead?

So, when an airline crew asks you to stow your phones, AirPods, and power banks in the pocket in front of you, this is why. A SwissAir flight from Zurich was forced to divert to JFK when a wireless earbuds charging case became lodged inside a passenger seat, where it was was damaged and overheated. I know we’re anal about a lot of stuff but this one is ultra-important. Power banks must not be used or charged during the flight and must be kept in the passenger seat pocket, or in hand baggage under the seat. Fires in airplanes is bad juju.

China Eastern flight, Lanzhou to Guiyang this morning. Plane had already landed and was taxiing when someone in front starts screaming “Fire!” and running. People look up... overhead bin is on fire.. Crew and passengers trying to deal with it, then the fire trucks show up on the ramp. We keep seeing this exact scene. Power banks and lithium batteries in the overhead bins. They get crushed, shorted, or just decide to go thermal runaway. Happened on Air China last year too, and plenty of other flights. That’s why the rules exist: keep the power bank under the seat or in the seat pocket, switched off, and only bring the ones that meet the airline limits. I’ve been on the ramp long enough to know how fast cabin smoke can turn into a real problem. Glad this one happened after landing and not at altitude, but “lucky” shouldn’t be the strategy. Be careful with these things, guys. Or leave the big power banks at home if you’re not sure.
