We were on a bus from the car park to the venue (about 5 mins) my Irish was sitting next to a stranger. By the time we arrived she’d found out that the woman lived in the next street to Colleen’s relatives in a small Irish village. They knew people in common as well. She told me you are considered pig ignorant if you didn’t speak to the person next to you on a bus in Ireland. As an English person I was gobsmacked.

A few years ago, I got off a train and noticed the driver sticking his head out the window. I roared from 2 carriage-lengths back "THANK YOU DRIVER!!" ...giggles all around.... 😉

I have a car; but It’s a common courtesy to thank the driver as he has driven you safely to your destination. You say thank you to taxi drivers, restaurant and shop workers. It’s all service.
