It’s times like this I do appreciate the fact that with a capitalist society I can just go buy one at the store for $20, and my wife wouldn’t have to worry about it being a death trap due to it lacking a ground wire and thermostat.

This thing is illegal: the wall plug used is european 230V "Schaku" with EARHTING strip contacts, but only the juice wires are connected to the hot iron. Gives a false impression of safety to the user, while in fact no security circuit exists at all. Wire fault = 100% fatality
