Few days ago, shared her Airbnb stories here about the mess guests leave behind. But her biggest troubles are not even over. Latest condition- wifi dismantled, knives damage in sofa, extreme filth, ruined linen, fan blades turned, 2 days property frozen due to all this. Customers not picking calls, making report to airbnb takes time & efforts. Indians are always ready to end a great service. You just rent a place, how do you get so much courage to do all this? I mean how you can even put shoes on bed, as simple as that! Let alone other damage. Reflects a lot on your upbringing and life choices. Subhuman treatment to others makes you subhuman, not the other way round. And no! No cleaning fees or fines can be justified for it. It is a question of dignity.

I believe if I had fought with armed police officers in an Airport, hospitalising one of them breaking her nose I would have been charged and remanded, I wouldn't of been back on my sofa within 24 hours as was the case at #ManchesterAirport I also believe fear and appeasement is why in this case these two were. Same reason police didn't respond when crowds decended onto the local police station that night. Moreover I also think, as a white British working class man, given the footage I saw, I feel very sure any jury would have come to a quick and easy decision in this case. Other factors I believe have leaked into decision making in Britain in 2026 and as a white person, given the direction of trave we can all see, you should find this petrifying. I say this as a former Police officer that genuinely believes both #TwoTierPolice and #TwoTierJustice are operating currently in Britain. #ManchesterAirport

Even when there is a positive story about EVs the legacy media cannot help itself to misinform.. Firstly, considering that Tesla produces almost 3,000 vehicles a day, to say that making “600“ or 1/5th as many is “STAGGERING” is just nonsense and certainly doesn’t justify the heightened intonation and zealous tone. Also, China’s best-selling car, the Model Y, doesn’t have any “extreme luxury” in fact none of the vehicles Tesla produces have a fridge, messaging or zero gravity “sofa seats” so to say that unless a car has these features “you are uncompetitive, your car is just not going to move off the lot” is obviously another fine piece of bull 💩. And of course, as it wasn’t a negative EV hit piece, no surprise, I couldn’t spot a single frame let alone a single mention of China’s and the world’s best-selling car. Bracing myself for the Foreign Correspondent ForeignCorrespondent story. C’mon ABC News you can do better than this. Last night, I was sleeping on a small sofa in my mother’s room at the hospital, and like any son, I was extremely worried about her health. The whole night, I was comforted by only one thing. I was comforted by a nurse from Keralam who came in every hour to check on my mother. Every single hour, she would come and check on her. She would smile, and she would hold her hand. I found myself thinking about how many sons, daughters, brothers, and sisters have been comforted in their most difficult moments by nurses from Keralam. Early in the morning, I asked her, “Do you sleep at night, or do you work the whole night?” And she said, “I work all night.” So, while the whole world sleeps, women from Keralam, not only in Keralam but also in Delhi, across the country, and around the world, are comforting people, holding their hands, and making them feel at ease. For me, this is the spirit of the state of Keralam. Rahul Gandhi ❤️

I can begin with some very modest praise for the Baptists. They at least know that the sacraments go together. To be baptized is to admitted to the Table. Having placed this feather in their cap, somewhat magnanimously, let me take it out again. Those Presbyterians who baptize infants, but who will not commune them, are those who bring their children into the covenant household, but will not feed them. The kids can sit on the sofa in the living room during dinner and listen to the happy clinking of the silverware coming from the dining room. But Reformed Baptists know that admission to the house is tantamount to admission to the Table—and so they remove all the inconsistency by making all their kids sleep in the yard. But Reformed credo-communionists and Reformed Baptists alike believe that the Christian faith is like a ride at Disneyland, where you have to be a certain height to participate. They have fallen into the same trap that the Lord’s first disciples fell into—that of believing that the Lord Jesus was far too important and far too busy to deal with the likes of children. And this is one of the places in the gospels where we are told that Jesus got angry (“much displeased,” aganakteo—angry).

Conor Neill: "Why smart people stay broke" "Took me a few years growing up to really learn this. In school, I did quite well in exams just through intelligence without having to do a lot of work. When I was young, I valued intelligence over action." He explains the trap smart people fall into: "One of the dangers for smart people, the smarter you are, the better your excuses. The more accomplished you are at talking yourself out of taking action. At proving to yourself that every action you could take is too small, too meaningless, and not worth it." Neill shares a quote from George Leonard, who brought jiu-jitsu from Japan to the US: "You cannot do everything. But you can do one thing. And another. And another. That's the way you make massive progress in life. Doing one thing and another and another." On his own YouTube channel: "Very often I sit down and think, these ideas aren't particularly deep or wise. But what makes this channel grow? What makes you come and connect? I guess the ideas aren't terrible. But I show up, and I share them. The fact that you show up and try and act, week after week, month after month, year after year, with a little bit of intelligence, you start to get better and better. You start to become more articulate." He emphasizes: "Even if the action is poor action, you're going to learn something from it. It's so easy to talk yourself out of action. But life rewards action, not intelligence. Not smarts in your brain, but action into the world." On discipline and measurement: "Until you measure something that matters, you do not know if you're disciplined." Neill shares a personal story: "My mentor would ask me to do some writing. Just write a few technical notes. Months passed. Years passed. I just wasn't making progress. So I hired a writing coach. For one year, I had a call every Wednesday. Every call would begin with him asking one question: how many words did you write this week?" The results were brutal: "He pushed me to measure how many words I wrote each day. Each week. Early on, it was very painful. It felt like I was putting a lot of energy into writing. But the actual number of words being produced. day after day, week after week, was very low." The realization: "It was only when I really got this measure, and made sure I looked at it each morning, each evening, each week, that I started to realize: so much of the effort was in my head and not turning into words on a page." Neill warns: "Be very careful in evaluating your discipline by whether you feel like you're making an effort. Because your mind will cheat you into believing you're being really busy. You're putting in a lot of effort. For me, it was brutal. The feeling in me was that I was putting a lot of time and energy into writing. But those early weeks, seeing that it resulted in so few words being written, that was the truth." He concludes: "Everything good in life happens when you're off the sofa and engaging with the world. Find a measure of something that matters. Pay attention to whether you're making progress on the actions that lead to that measure. Value action above thinking, or intending to take action."

Paul Schrader's 'Blue Collar' (1978) was a very tense shoot, because Richard Pryor, Yaphet Kotto, and Harvey Keitel argued constantly. There were fights, verbal abuse, walk-offs, and Mexican stand-offs. According to Paul Schrader, Pryor hit Kotto with a chair on camera during filming. Here is Schrader explaining the tense atmosphere & the reason why he cried during the filming of 'Blue Collar' (1978): "Schrader: [Richard Pryor was never meant to be the star of the movie]. A lot of the difficulties on the film came out of the fact that | had approached Richard and Harvey Keitel and Yaphet Kotto separately and led each of them to believe that they were the star of the movie, because that’s what it took to get them involved. You were basically introducing three bulls into a china shop and asking them to get along, and you can’t really blame the bulls when things start getting wrecked. Very early on, by the second or third day of production, Richard became convinced that he was playing the black sidekick to Harvey’s Terry Molloy, and Harvey became convinced that he was playing Ed McMann to Richard’s Johnny Carson, and Yaphet was convinced that they were both trying to ace him out, and things got very heavy. We were shooting in auto plants in Detroit and Kalamazoo in middle of a heatwave and pretty much what was happening on-screen started happening off-screen. Not a day went by without some sort of confrontation. Right after you said ‘Cut’, a fight would start. After about three weeks in, I was in the middle of the set and all of a sudden I started crying and I just couldn’t stop, something I'd never done before. The AD grabbed me and took me outside and walked me around the block and I said, ‘This is not working. The movie is never going to get finished and I'm never going to work again.” But he calmed me down and walked me back in and I guess everyone realized I wasn’t as much the iron man as | had been appearing. Richard looked at me and said, ‘You pu**y —are you gonna be a man or not on this movie?’, and I said, ‘OK, Richard, I’m sorry. It won’t happen again.’ Interviewer: Did things improve from that point on? Schrader: Part of the problem was to do with Richard’s style of acting. Being primarily versed in stand-up comedy he had a creative life of between three and four takes. The first one would be good, the second would be real good, the third would be terrific and the fourth would probably start to fall off. Whereas Harvey, with his theatrical training, very self-analytical, would work on the meaning of the scene in the early takes and then after ten takes he’d be terrific. Well, there’s virtually no way you can film those two men together, so you’d have to rehearse Harvey with a stand-in and then bring Richard in without any rehearsal. The other thing that Richard would do when he felt his performance going flat was to improvise and change the dialogue just like he would have done in front of a live audience, and he would never tell me or anyone what he was going to do. In one case I had a two-shot of Richard and Harvey where Richard just started flying, and of course Harvey tried to top him, and as soon as that happened Richard just sort of took off and became brilliant. Harvey broke a take once because he felt himself being knocked out of shot. I had to grab Harvey and get him down on the floor and yell at him, ‘Don’t you ever break shot!’, because Richard was right behind me trying to get at him. So the shooting strategy became very limited: ‘I know I may only have one take with these actors, so what’s the best one?’, and you’d work out the minimum coverage you needed and that’s all you got. Sometimes if they were in a good mood you could actually try something a little different, but by the time we shot the last scene, the one with all three of them on the sofa after the party, they hadn’t been talking to each other for a long time, and I had fallen into a prolonged pattern of script negotiations which usually began the night before and went on into the morning of shooting, talking to each of them until they were all happy with the others’ improvisations. Now the day before the sofa scene Richard had hit Yaphet with a chair on-camera, so I knew it was going to be tough. We lit the scene with extras, put their names on the sofa with pieces of tape, and the crew were all warned. The three of them came into the room in silence, there was no discussion, I said ‘Action’ and we did the first take, which ran to about four or five minutes — much too long. So I said, ‘OK, that’s very good, but it’s too long for us. We’re going to go right again. No one move, no one talk, let’s just do it a little faster. Action.’ We did that take on the same reel of film and that was two and a half minutes. I said, ‘Cut’, and Richard got up, went downstairs, got in his car and drove home. End of movie. Interviewer: All this must have given you a completely different perspective on the job of being a director than the one you’d envisaged when you were a critic. Schrader: It did. I said afterwards that if this was what movie-making was like I didn’t want to do this any more. On that film, I very quickly learned to confine myself to talent management, to making sure the actors stayed in character and the storyline remained coherent. I handed over shot selection and lighting and blocking essentially to my crew. I didn’t have time to explore those areas." ('Schrader on Schrader & other writings', edited by Kevin Jackson, 1990) [P.S: On this day, 48 years ago, 'Blue Collar' was released in the USA]

You’re away on vacation (or business—whatever got you out of town) with your partner when the Ring camera starts pinging. You open the app and there’s a woman you don’t know walking through your living room like she belongs there. Brunette, gray asymmetrical dress, moving around, sitting on the sofa. She spots the camera, walks over, and unplugs it. That’s the start of the footage Yelim Kim (Yelim Kim) posted from her luxury NYC apartment. She and her partner Bill were out of town. The building is managed by Goose Property Management. Somehow a spare key (or keys) got handed over—comments and the follow-up pointed at management/concierge staff giving access. Other residents chimed in with similar frustrations about keys being given out too freely; it had that community-notes vibe of “this isn’t the first time.” Friends who lived nearby headed over while Yelim was on the phone with police. They confronted the woman. She put her hands up, said she was a “patient,” and left. Then she came back claiming she’d left her car keys in the bathroom. She had multiple keys on her and used one to let herself right back in. Police from the 108th Precinct showed up, found her inside, walked her down to the lobby, questioned her, and ended up taking her to a hospital for observation instead of booking her. No charges, no formal report—they cited her mental state. Goose Property Management later said they reviewed everything with their concierge provider, permanently removed the employee involved, and updated their security checklist. Yelim and Bill asked to break the lease and got no real response. They’re left checking every motion alert (usually just the dogs) and feeling like the place isn’t theirs anymore. Goose Property Management itself is based out of Brooklyn (Flushing Avenue area) and mostly handles properties there, with some in Queens. The 108th Precinct call puts this particular apartment in Queens, not Manhattan’s Upper East Side. There isn’t a well-known “Goose Apartments” building sitting on the UES—people in the comments were reacting to the management company name, which is how that detail spread. The whole thing is pure “your apartment just stopped being yours for a few hours” energy: key handed out, stranger making herself at home, camera cut, second entry with extras keys still in hand, and the system treating it more like a medical issue than a break-in.

The USS Abraham Lincoln is one of the most powerful weapons ever built. The Americans built it to park wherever they wanted and dare anyone to object. Iran objected. The Lincoln started this war sitting 350 kilometres off the Iranian coast. Close enough to smell the place. Then something happened. Nobody agrees on what. Trump says 101 missiles were fired and every single one was knocked down. Iran says they hit it. CENTCOM says nothing came close. Everyone is lying about something, and the ship is now 1,100 kilometres away, tucked behind Oman’s coastal mountains like a man hiding behind a sofa. That distance matters more than any press release. A carrier at 350 kilometres is terrifying. Its jets can reach Tehran in minutes. Its strike package lands before anyone has time to make a phone call. A carrier at 1,100 kilometres is a different proposition entirely. Longer missions. More tankers. More exposure. More things that can go wrong on the way there and the way back. You don’t move a ninety-thousand-ton symbol of national power three times further from the fight because the laundry room caught fire. Which brings us to the USS Gerald R. Ford. The world’s largest aircraft carrier caught fire in the Red Sea on March 12. The blaze started in the aft laundry facility, caused a major damage control response, displaced sailors across the ship, and destroyed over 100 beds. The Navy flew a mattress airlift from a carrier still sitting in Virginia. They also collected nearly 2,000 sweatsuits to distribute to the crew because most of the laundry was out of commission. Then the Ford left the war zone entirely and sailed to Crete for repairs. But the fire was almost a relief from the Ford’s other problem. The $13 billion ship’s vacuum sewage system, borrowed from the cruise ship industry, has been failing throughout the deployment. Out of nearly 650 toilets onboard, most have been non-functional at various points. Sailors have waited up to 45 minutes in line. The maintenance crew was working 19-hour days trying to keep up with the demand. Everything from t-shirts to a four-foot piece of rope has been pulled from the pipes. The most powerful warship ever built. Broken toilets. So here is the full picture. The Abraham Lincoln, pushed 750 kilometres south by something Iran apparently fired at it, is now launching aircraft on extended missions from behind a mountain range in Oman. The Gerald R. Ford, the carrier sent to replace it as the tip of the spear, caught fire and sailed to Greece. And somewhere in a Virginia shipyard, the USS George H.W. Bush is heading out to join a war that has already humiliated the first two ships sent to fight it. This is the part the Pentagon doesn’t want to discuss at press conferences. Modern precision missiles, fired in large enough numbers, are doing something that was supposed to be impossible: making American carriers think twice about where they stand. If the Lincoln was actually struck, even once, the implications reach far beyond one ship and one war. They reach into every strategic calculation every American adversary has been running for thirty years. The United States built its entire post-Cold War foreign policy around the ability to park a carrier strike group off your shore and explain, very politely, that the conversation was now over. That era may not be over. But for the first time in a generation, someone is making it complicated. And the Lincoln, sitting 1,100 kilometres from the action it was sent to dominate, is the clearest evidence yet that something has changed. Nobody builds a carrier that big just to hide it behind a mountain range in Oman. And nobody sends a second one to Greece to fix the toilets. Follow Gandalv Gandalv

This is the post I never wanted to write. I’m sad beyond words to tell you that Zelda has passed away. Her health took a downward turn earlier this year, and we made the hardest, kindest decision. In our final moments together, I held Zelda in my arms at home, and she drifted away peacefully into her deepest nap. I’ve been quiet, and I’m so sorry. Zelda’s passing hit me immeasurably hard - she meant the world to me. Our paths crossed in 2014 when I adopted her from the Mayhew rescue shelter. I had recently moved to my first place, distant from family and friends. I felt lonely, and I guess Zelda was too. She spent most of her time hiding under the sofa, observing me with her unblinking stare, spooking at the slightest noise or movement. At times I found it hard to imagine a happy future together, but she didn’t give up on me. She was coaching me to become the patient, gentle and kind person I strive to be today. One day, weeks later, she took the bravest leap and tentatively climbed onto my lap. Earning her trust felt magical. Being her roommate made my flat feel like a home, and we became inseparable. Zelda was with me through so much, from moving in with my partner to getting married, moving home three times more, and twice becoming a father. She was a constant source of joy, laughter, and love for our family - and I feel so privileged to have been able to share some of her antics with you. Grief affects us all in different ways, but it has been a huge comfort to me knowing how much you care. I feel I owe so much to you all for supporting me over the years with all your kind comments, poems, buying the book, making memes, fan art, and more. Thank you, from the bottom of my broken heart. Part of the healing process has taken me through a mountain of old photos and videos of Zelda, and there’s so much that I didn’t get to share. I didn’t get to tell you just how much we adored her, nor how happy a life she had with us. Beneath her online persona, I’m so proud that she evolved from that perpetually startled homebody to the most affectionate, trusting and curious adventurer. Included in this post is a small snapshot of some everyday moments I spent with Zelda. In the coming weeks, I’ll share more. After all, I’ve missed you so much. Zelda, thank you for choosing me that day in the shelter. Thank you for trusting me. Sorry for constantly waving a camera in your face. You’re beautiful inside and out, and I’ll love you forever. - Matt

In 1997, at the age of 27, Matt Damon won his first Academy Award for Best Screenplay ("Good Will Hunting"). After Damon won the Oscar, he went home, sat down on his sofa, & looked at the award. As he looked at it, he was suddenly overwhelmed by a heartbreaking thought. "Imagine chasing that, and not getting it, and getting it finally in your 80s or your 90s with all of life behind you and realizing what an unbelievable waste of your life...It can't fill you up. If that's a hole that you have, that won't fill it." "My heart broke," Damon said. "I imagined another one of me [not getting that award until I was] an old man, and going like, 'oh my god. where did my life go? What have I done?' And then it's over." Takeaway 1: Many successful, rich, famous, etc. people talk about chasing success, money, fame, etc., getting it, and realizing that it didn't feel like they thought it would. That it didn't, as Damon said, fill the hole they had. One of my favorite analogies for this pattern comes from Sam Hinkie. Hinkie was asked about what he's learned from reading Robert Caro's books—about some very successful, rich, famous, etc. people. "I think of it like the Pacific Salmon," Hinkie said. "They spend their whole life making this journey upstream to spawn in this one spot. And as soon as they do, they die. That's largely what Caro shows you." Takeaway 2: Before he was a big-time comedian, Hasan Minhaj was asked if he thought he was going to become a big-time comedian. “I don’t like that question,” he said. “I fundamentally don’t like that question.” Because that question implies that he is only doing comedy as a means to some end (success, money, fame, etc.). “No, no, no,” he said, “The set I get to do tonight at 7:20 PM is the win. I get to do comedy—I won. It being predicated on doing X or being bigger than Y—no, no, no. To me, it’s always just been about the work." "The work is the win," as Ryan Holiday once told me. - - - "It's such a gift to be able to [do] something and to love it for the sake of it...I see people with talent, with all those things. But the one thing they don't have is just that love for doing it for the sake of it...So if there's anything, just find joy in what you do for the sake of it." — Rodney Mullen Follow Billy Oppenheimer for more content like this!

Henrik Karlsson may be the best new writer I know. He has near-superhuman powers of eloquence and perception, and if you aren’t reading his Substack, it’s time to change that. How does he do it? Some answers: 1. A blog post is a very long and complex search query to find fascinating people and make them route interesting stuff to your inbox. 2. Almost everybody would be well-served thinking more about what to focus on. 3. Always, always aim to reach past your current understanding of a topic — to reach the thought behind the thought. 4. Beware of knowledge shields: These are mental models that are good enough to explain most of what we see, but cause us to ignore everything else, filter out contradictory evidence, and resist deeper explanations of reality. 5. Many of the greatest mathematicians didn't think in words or symbols; they thought kinetically. They'd feel ideas in their hands and follow the intelligence of their body. 6. When drawing, the trick is to spend more time looking at the thing you’re trying to describe than actually drawing. The same is true for writing. Look at what you’re describing more than the words you’ve written. 7. The philosopher Wittgenstein said: “Don’t think, look!” 8. "I'll go and look at a plant. I could stand and look at that for a long time, just describing what I'm seeing and then correcting it again and again." 9. The writing is finally good when what you’ve written evokes the same sense of aliveness and truth as the thing you’re trying to describe. Edit your writing until that’s true. 10. Finding your people is perhaps the biggest perk of writing online, but if you follow conventional writing advice, you will cut the very things that’ll help you find the people you’re looking for. 11. “I need to let things live in my body for about a year before I can actually turn them into essays.” 12. This is obvious, but bears repeating: If you write the best thing that’s ever been written about a topic, you’ll receive repeat traffic for years to come. There’s lots of competition for mediocre writing, but very little for any piece that’s 5-10x better than average, which is paradoxically the easier strategy to pursue. 13. If you insist on making your writing immediately comprehensible, you’ll block yourself off from especially interesting ideas that are right at the edge of language. 14. "Sometimes I'll lie on the sofa in my writing studio, close my eyes, and put on voice transcription and just talk." 15. To write is to pin your thoughts to the table so you can examine them. 16. The real work of becoming a writer is in becoming the kind of person who can think interesting thoughts, and essays are the exhaust from that process of personal growth. I’ve shared the full conversation with Henrik Karlsson below. If you want to watch it on YouTube, or listen on Apple or Spotify, check out the reply tweets.
