“Jerusalem will be trodden down by the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled.” Jesus Christ (Luke 21:24) There is a rising fervor among many Jews—as well as very confused Christians—to rebuild a “Third Temple” in Jerusalem. This man—who genuinely seems to mean well—says that doing so for the sake of the nations (“gentiles”) will usher in an era of peace, and that the Jews must have the courage to do it. These words should fill us with a deep longing for the conversion of the Jewish people, who remain beloved by God for the sake of their fathers, and part of the Messiah’s family according to the flesh. By their rejection, these “sons of the kingdom” have been disinherited from the eternal inheritance He won for them (Matt. 8:12). The words of this Jewish man should arouse profound sadness for Christians for this, among other reasons: God’s presence has been brought into the world in a preeminent degree by His Son, the Messiah, Jesus Christ. Right now, the Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity of the Messiah can be encountered at every Catholic altar around the planet. The Eucharist, as prophesied by the Jewish prophet Malachi (1:11), has been offered among the Gentile nations as the once, final, and ultimate sacrifice to God for 2,000 years. Through the grace of God, received preeminently in the sacraments, God now dwells in our souls, making them small “temples” of His presence, building blocks of the larger Temple, His Church, in which He dwells forever, promising it will never be defeated by Hell. There is thus no need for a “Third Temple” in Jerusalem. There already is a Third Temple, and it is indestructible: the Body of Jesus Christ, in Heaven and on earth—the Church of the God of Israel, located not just in one nation, but in EVERY nation. We should therefore not kid ourselves: the religious and geopolitical agenda that proposes an alternative to this through a man-made “Third Temple” in the name of the God of Israel is of Antichrist. To affirm that a “Third Temple” made by the hands of men is required in order to “bring God’s presence into the world” for the sake of Jews and Gentiles is a denial that the God of Israel has ALREADY brought His presence into the world, on behalf of both Jews and Gentiles. It is to essentially claim that man’s power to build a physical temple can bring about a result that God Himself has already achieved—in an ever greater degree—through Jesus Christ, despite the best attempts of wicked Jews and Gentiles to stop Him. Fortunately, we are assured by Sacred Scripture, the Church Fathers, the Saints, and the Magisterium, that the Jews will one day say “Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord” (Matt. 23:39). God has not forgotten them. They will receive Jesus Christ, in one of the most dramatic turn of events in all history. They will finally see Him for who He is. They will “look on him whom they have pierced, they shall mourn for him, as one mourns for an only child, and weep bitterly over him, as one weeps over a first-born” (Zach. 12:10). I personally believe these Jewish converts will play a vital role in rousing lukewarm Christians throughout the apostate Gentile world to a final push of perseverance against Antichrist, “and so all Israel will be saved” (Rom. 11:26). Some people say Christians are happy about war in the Middle East because we want to see Armageddon happen. Nothing could be further from the truth. We want peace. In fact, the Bible specifically tells us to “pray for the peace of Jerusalem.” Our desire is not conflict, but that people across the region would experience freedom—especially the freedom to worship God. We pray for the people of Israel and the people of Iran alike—that there would be a genuine spiritual awakening and that many would come to Christ. After all, so much of the history of the Bible unfolded in that very part of the world, and Scripture tells us that Jesus Himself will one day return to the Mount of Olives. Let’s all do what Scripture calls us to do: pray—for peace, for freedom, and for hearts to turn to God.

Bible Questions and Answers, Part 70 — John MacArthur “I’m Joey Cusenza, and my question is, why didn’t Jesus stop Eve at the garden of Eden when she ate the fruit? *Like, I mean, pow,* He can just stop it like that. Why didn’t He?” JOHN: That is the most profound question of all questions: Why didn’t God stop Eve from eating the fruit? This theologians call the problem of theodicy: Why is there evil in the world? If God is absolutely holy, why is there evil in the world? That’s essentially that question: Why didn’t He stop it before it started? First of all, the broad answer is this: because God allowed her to eat that fruit, God allowed sin to come into the world, so that He could be glorified. Now God is a God of love, and He could express that love even in the perfection of the Trinity. And He expressed that love to Adam and Eve when He walked and talked with them before they sinned and before she ate. So God could express His love. But if there had never been a sin, there would never be forgiveness, there would never be mercy, there would never be grace, there would never be compassion, there would never be healing, there would never be restoration. And so, forever and ever, the angels would never be able to worship God for all those aspects of His nature. So God allows evil so that He can display grace and mercy and compassion because those also are attributes of God that can only be put on display through His response to sin. There’s another reason, and that is that God is holy and just and righteous. He would never be able to display ultimately what that means unless there were sinners to judge. So whether it is judgment on sin or whether it is salvation from sin, the fact that sin exists allows God to display eternally the glory of the full scope of His attributes. Okay? Great question. When I was in Spain ahead of the apostolic visit, Catholics hoped Pope Leo would send a message of unity and common good, urge the dignity of every human being, and give Catholics a voice. In all 3 themes, I think those final goodbyes are done in a different Spain than one the pope arrived to. King Felipe's smile as he waves goodbye says it all.
