Zohran Mamdani told Donald Trump to "turn the volume up" as he addressed his supporters during a victory speech after he won New York City's mayoral race, saying that the city that made the president is also the city that can show the country how to defeat him. We have sanctuary city policies, which used to be defended by Democrats and Republicans alike. These are policies that do not allow ice admission into schools, into hospitals, into any city property or properties of city contractors unless they can show a judicial warrant signed by a judge. And what we know is, time and time again, the videos we're watching, they're not videos of warrants being shown. They are videos of brutal intimidation. And it is time to have a mayor of the city who recognizes this risk is a present day one, and will stand up for each and every one of the 3 million immigrants who call the city home. I will not be a mayor like Mayor Adams who will call you to figure out how to stay out of jail or be a disgrace governor like Andrew Cuomo who will call you to ask how to win this election. I can do those things on my own. I will however be a mayor who is ready to speak at any time to lower the cost of living. That is the way that I will lead the city and the partnership I want to build not only with Washington, D.C., but anyone across this country.
