The focus was on compact defensive shape, protecting the middle, and moving together as a unit up... and down the pitch. Players were coached to defend central overloads first and force the ball wide. This wasn’t random. United’s win over City was no fluke. Ajax training this week featured this Combination Passing Practice: Up Back Through Variation Practice Description This technical combination practice is designed to develop passing quality, positional awareness, timing of movement and communication. The outside players will always complete two passes around the outside before transferring the ball through the central area (Adapt as it progresses). As the ball enters the middle, the two central players combine using an up back through pattern. Both central players must continually assess the movement of the ball, adjust their positioning and prepare early to receive. Play is limited to one or two touches to encourage efficient ball circulation. Following the central combination, the player who sets the ball rotates into the outside position. The player who initially passes into the central area moves inside to continue the sequence. Over 14 years of video analysis experience has taught us one thing at KeepItOnTheDeck 👀 Watch for the trends! This week at the Manchester United training ground, one trend stood out clearly... Michael Carrick has been heavily involved and focused on midfield relationships. And we would bet you see these patterns appear in the game against Fulham tomorrow. Before the comments rush in saying “we are giving away tactics”, that idea is ridiculous and comes from a non educated coaching view. Every Premier League club already knows these patterns. The issue is not seeing them. The issue is stopping them. The up back through and positional play around it is one of the hardest things to defend in football. Carrick gave a brilliant example this week of how to install clear pictures into players... 1️⃣ Working completely unopposed to allow players to practise and build relationships 2️⃣ Introducing semi opposed patterns to challenge angles of support and technique 3️⃣ Seeing the patterns appear in games and stepping in to praise and reinforce them That is top quality coaching. All the pundits and “experts” calling for a bigger name saying Carrick is not " big enough name" are missing the point. Why not judge the man on the job he is doing? Judge MERRIT!!! Why can't football people judge merit anymore? In the early weeks, the impact cannot be denied. Obviously, great players are gonna dominate the ball sometimes, but the game is designed to play together and as a team against the other team. When the ball is moving, it's the most fun for everybody." "It feels really good when LaMelo (Ball) pump fakes and passes, and Brandon (Miller) does the same thing and passes, and we turned down two good shots for a great shot in the corner for me." "And it goes the same way—you drive down the baseline or drive in the middle of the floor and kick it back into a guy that's wide open. That feels good. It makes everybody feel good, even if it goes in or not. I just think that's the beauty of basketball."

Fred Warner was asked why he started watching the 49ers - Seahawks playoff game in a suite before making his way down to the sideline in the second quarter: “The reason why I was in the box in the first place is because the training staff said 'to give you the best chance to have a good training session going into tomorrow to ultimately have a chance at playing in the game next Sunday if we win, you need to be in the box because if you’re on your feet the whole game your ankle is gonna swell up'. We were right there in the corner of the end zone where Rashid Shaheed returned the kickoff for the touchdown and the game was not going our way early on. They’re playing to their crowd — the momentum of the crowd and I’m sitting next to Patrick Willis and I said 'We just gotta settle in. We gotta play the game. Don’t let them play to the momentum. Let’s actually make them play the game', and Patrick said 'They need to hear that from you'. And I was like 'Done deal'. So I asked for a security guard to get me down there and I just tried to rally the guys and ultimately of course it wasn’t enough to get us over the hump. It just wasn’t our day.”

The contest is played on an 80-yard by ~45-yard field. The #Bears defeat the Portsmouth Spartans, 9-0, in what is essentially NFL history's first postseason game. Due to the game being played on Chicago Stadium's smaller indoor field (the Bears and Cardinals had played an exhibition game there in 1930), numerous rules were modified, including: · a 20-yard "setback" each time a team passes midfield · no field goals · kickoffs from 10-yard line According to NFL historian Joe Horrigan, the story of the playing surface including animal manure from a circus was a "popular after-dinner yarn"...the circus actually occurred a week after the game, not before. The playing surface for this 1932 finale was mulch and dirt that had been brought in.

As the ball travels across to the opposite centre back, the opposition number 10 jumps to press. In doing so, the number 10 blocks the passing lane into one pivot as he moved. But the staggered positioning in the pivot positions creates the solution, the ball side pivot stays behind the first line of pressure. The opposite pivot drops at an angle to receive. A passing lane opens around the pressing player who jumps to press. The team escapes pressure and progresses through the centre.
