At what point did SNL stop being funny?

Has anyone heard of Tennessee Williams' "A Streetcar Named Desire" or Arthur Miller's "All My Sons"? These Broadway works were literary masterpieces. SNL's period piece is sad and pathetic compared to the intellectual stimulation of that era.

Trite and contrived at best, SNL has become the caricature of a narcissistic subset of people whose only trope is to criticize the past finding solace in their superior "sensibilities" - ahem.. straight talk "Bullshit"
