Many cannot even comprehend that the postwar economy in Britain - and in other European countries as well - was effectively planned. It was more similar to the Chinese economy of today than to the British economy of today. Since the planning stopped it has gone to the wall. 🇬🇧

Would central planning work in a fully automated economy? There's 3 main reasons to think it might: 1. The central planner can just directly learn from the experience of other AIs (think of a much more advanced version of Tesla FSD model learning from millions of driving samples). 2. The central planner can have way more intelligence/compute than everyone else. Xi Jinping has the same 10^15 FLOPs as everyone else. Not necessarily so for the mega-inference scaled bureaucrat. 3. In order to align incentives for humans, we have to use markets. But we can much more easily control the preferences of AIs. But there's a big reason to think that central planning would still fail: The whole economy is getting more complicated and intelligent, not just the planner at the center of it.
