A Congolese national and Director of African Refugee and Migrant Aid, Mr Malipo Mbalanga, has blamed the South African government for failing to document every foreign national applying for asylum in the country. Mbalanga says many undocumented immigrants currently living in South Africa are asylum seekers whose applications were rejected by Home Affairs, leaving them with no legal status and forcing them to remain in the country illegally.

The number of prisoners over 65 has nearly quadrupled nationally in recent years. Many break the law again upon release in an effort to get back behind bars, and some are willing to give up their pensions to stay in prison permanently. According to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, 20% of people over 65 in Japan live below the poverty line.

New Jersey is home to an estimated 460,000+ illegal immigrants and has the sixth-largest share of immigrant residents in the country. Local organizations and the consulate in the Newark area often estimate the true "undocumented" Brazilian community alone to be double or more what official figures show. It is believed that the heavily immigrant areas of Newark are severely undercounted as many households refused to participate in the census for fear of deportation. The top country of origin for immigrants in Newark is Ecuador, with 13,762 immigrants and accounts for a large number of the Hispanic population. Considering the volume and size of these communities, it's shocking that more people aren't protesting at the Delaney Hall ICE detention facility.
