Many large-scale data centres are "energy-guzzling infrastructure" with only a minimal impact on job creation. While Tamil Nadu won't stop attracting data centres, it will focus on smaller, AI-specific data centres that better suit the state's highly educated workforce. Certain data centres (referring to a Google project in Andhra... Pradesh) were built in specific locations primarily because of existing undersea cable infrastructure. And we all know who runs the existing infrastructure there. Bottom line: Tamil Nadu will not join a "rat race to the bottom" by giving away land for free or providing excessive incentives just to win an investment. This week, we have had a lot of discussions around artificial intelligence, inspired by the Global AI Summit in Kigali, Rwanda. Many African countries are doing great things to motivate young people to take advantage of AI because it represents the future in problem solving. Unfortunately, Zimbabwe’s ICT Minister Tatenda Mavetera and her permanent secretary did not attend, showing how these things are not taken seriously by our government. Zimbabwe’s richest man, Strive Masiyiwa, who has not been to Zimbabwe for decades, made it clear at the summit, which he co-chaired, that investment will not go where the environment is not conducive. Our government talks about anything topical without delivering anything meaningful—they are doing the same with AI. The majority of schools have no computers. Zimbabweans receive electricity for only four hours a day. As the Under-Secretary-General and Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, Claver Gatete, explains, a country needs electricity for AI data centres to work. Yet only 600 million out of 1.5 billion people in Africa have access to electricity, not even energy. Yet energy is an integral part of AI development. Energy is an essential component for the successful development and implementation of AI in a country because AI systems require massive amounts of data to function effectively. This data must be stored and processed in data centres and servers, which depend on electricity to power both the hardware and the cooling systems. You cannot achieve this in a country that delivers only four hours of electricity a day to its citizens like Zimbabwe. AI applications require continuous and uninterrupted access to data and computing resources to deliver accurate and timely results. Electricity is also crucial for powering research institutions, universities, and Research and Development centres that drive AI advancement. Without reliable access to electricity, these institutions will struggle to conduct research, develop new algorithms, or train AI models. The tragedy of Zimbabwe is that the Vice-President of Google responsible for AI, Dr James Manyika, is Zimbabwean; one of the key presenters at the summit, Prof Arthur Mutambara, who has just released a book on AI, is Zimbabwean; Strive Masiyiwa, who has partnered with Nvidia to bring supercomputer technology to the continent by building Africa’s first artificial intelligence factory in South Africa with data centres in Kenya and Egypt, is Zimbabwean. Yet, none of them are working in or with Zimbabwe. Our political leaders have let us down on all these fronts, yet they keep yapping about AI when there is nothing on the ground! Instead of slogans and dancing at rallies, they should see how other countries are doing it. A country that doesn’t focus on technology for development will be a dusty village in 25 years, and its people will not be able to compete at all, rendering it just a dot on the global map. What I saw at Alberta's anti-AI protest A $13 billion investment from Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, will see a new data centre built near Edmonton. But not all Albertans are on board with the development, and Rebel News heard from protesters opposed to the project. I went to a protest against an Alberta data centre the other day. It was a Sunday, in a small town, and 200 people showed up. That’s a lot. And unlike most protests I go to, where the protesters have no clue what they’re protesting about, everyone here had a lot to say. Even stranger, they didn’t try to block Rebel News. And the strangest thing was, one of the protesters was a die-hard Rebel News fan. So, are these protesters right? Are data centres something we should fear? The demand for computer processing is so huge these days — think of streaming a Netflix show or making a Zoom call — that the computing power doesn’t come from your laptop or your phone anymore. It comes from buildings stuffed with computers, called data centres. And as artificial intelligence becomes more commonplace, the need for data centres is going to grow. There’s a bit of a race between China and America on AI, and that’s fuelling some of the fevered growth, too. And to me, that’s an important point, and one that I put to a number of the anti-AI protesters: AI isn’t going away. The question is, do you want AI controlled by Communist China, or do you want it controlled by America? Which is more likely to respect privacy and freedom? That was the real fear of the people I spoke with. Their objections to the big $13 billion data centre being built in northern Alberta wasn’t really about its proposed water use (it will use less than a golf course) or it’s power use (it’s actually building its own $4 billion power plant). It’s about AI itself. AI is something to worry about, and to make sure that it’s done right. No doubt it will change many things in our lives. But protesting a computer factory in Alberta isn’t going to change the answers to that — all it might do is push some construction jobs down to Texas, or China itself. I wasn’t surprised that there were climate activists there, but I thought it was weird that the Revolutionary Communist Party was out in such force. I actually went up to the construction site of the big new data centre to interview him on location. I’ll have that video for you later this week. What do you think? Why has Blair suddenly changed his tune on the climate and how to generate energy in the U.K. why is it ok for British citizens to be bankrupted to pay ever increasing energy costs and be constantly told they need to reduce their energy useage and the public and farmers told they MUST conserve water at the same time as huge data centres and Ai centres are bing built which use MASSIVE amounts of energy and huge amounts of water. And all whilst planning laws are changed overnight to stop residents and farmers complaining about the destruction of thousands of acres of land to build solar farms. It’s bullshit, a massive scam from top to bottom.

No legal obligation to create even those. THREE permanent AI job vacancies in Warrington in 2025. Three. Specialist roles brought in on fast tracked visas. Not for local kids. Manufacturing creates thousands of jobs. Data centres create dozens. 8 million UK jobs at risk from AI. UK hit harder than any other major economy. Your pension redirected by ministers into the tech companies building those data centres. Without your consent. Funding the machine that's replacing you. And while he stood on that stage. 1,200 children safeguarded from grooming gangs every single month. Child abuse conviction data buried for years. That's China's plan to win the AI race and control the next century. But that DOES NOT mean data centers should just drain public power. I'm dead set against any data center that has a SINGLE line feeding them power from the grid. But some are generating their own power and giving the excess TO the grid. Those are two very different scenarios. Thankfully, Kevin O'Leary has said his data center project in Utah will generate its own power. THIS IS A MUST. Just like railroads, factories, oil, and electricity powered previous generations, the future will run on AI computing, powered by massive amounts of energy. We need both to stop China from dominating the world. China knows this and is trying to turn data centers into a boogeyman. There’s evidence out now from the Bitcoin Policy Institute that foreign influence networks are actively feeding this anti-data center movement in the United States. They traced several overlapping campaigns, all aimed at slowing American AI infrastructure down, directly to China. Strong countries build infrastructure. Weak countries fear it. We can't fall for their trap. But we must also build strategically without sacrificing public resources.

They started from scratch in Norway with nothing and built all the infrastructure. So it's much easier for them to say, "Hey, what do you need and how much land do you want?" The data center boom has a geopolitical shadow. Think about it- in a world where military systems run on compute, the buildings that provide that compute will become targets. And the messy part is that a lot of this infrastructure is dual-use with civilian data, banking data, cloud services, defense contracts, intelligence workloads all potentially blurred inside the same ecosystem. So if these facilities are being built next to neighborhoods, schools, and homes, people deserve to know more than “it brings jobs.” They deserve to know what kind of infrastructure they’re living next to, what risks come with it, and whether their community is secretly being folded into the map of modern warfare.

I think the fact is there are only going to be four or five of these companies that are able to raise the billions required to build the infrastructure to support these models. It's a global competition, and particularly against the Chinese right now because they're trying to beat us on AI, because the country with the best AI is gonna win all the wars. That's what's gonna happen. I think at the end of the day you want diversification in your portfolio, not just one stack. For me, I'm playing the picks and shovels. I'm building energy because you need energy for this stuff, and I'm building data centers. Now, there are different things, but right now we need more electrical power in this country beyond just data centers. We just need power because we got a booming economy.

With full on Trump Derangement Synrome, Doug Ford announces that Ontario will go aggressively after AI centres. "Ontario has a choice. We can build the economy of the future and ensure Canadians' data remains in Canada and out of President Trump's hands, or we can get left behind and risk Canadians' data being sent down to the US where only President Trump - Gd knows what he will do with it. I don't trust that guy as far as I could throw him. We don't want to rely on President Trump getting his paws all over it. We want to focus on our data. Either we do it, or Donald Trump's going to do it. And I'm not giving Donald Trump nothing, absolutely nothing." The comical part is that TDS and take that Donald Trump policy is now getting Canada to build our economy. Whatever it takes.

Our culture of entrepreneurship, free enterprise, and low taxes has made our province the go-to destination for investment whether it be in the energy sector, data centres, and so much more. Together, with Alberta's business-friendly policies, we will continue creating jobs that hard-working Albertans can rely on.
