I wasn’t aware of this- The image shows the Baytown Tunnel, an underwater vehicular tunnel that connected Baytown and La Porte, Texas.  •The tunnel opened in September 1953, replacing the Morgans Point Ferry.  •It was removed in 1998 to accommodate larger ships after the Houston Ship Channel was deepened, and the recycled concrete aggregate was used in other Houston-based construction projects.  •The tunnel was replaced by the Fred Hartman Bridge, a cable-stayed bridge that spans the Houston Ship Channel and carries State Highway 146.  •The Fred Hartman Bridge was named after Fred Hartman, a local newspaper editor, and opened in 1995.
