Speaking earlier today on NBC’s Meet the Press about the operation to capture Nicolás Maduro, Secretary of State Marco Rubio made comments about future plans for Latin America. Welker: “Is the Cuban Government the Trump Administration's next target?” Rubio: “Well, the Cuban government is a huge problem. Cuba's coast guard killed four people on a speedboat from Florida who opened fire off the Cuban coast on Wednesday, the interior ministry in Havana said. The people were armed and shooting at Border Guard Troops as they approached, according to Cuban authorities. It is not clear who was in the Florida-registered speedboat, where they were from, or what their reason was for entering Cuban waters or allegedly opening fire. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the U.S. government doesn't have other information besides what the Cuban authorities have said. But, as CBS News' Lilia Luciano notes, this incident comes 30 years after the Cubans killed four people from the Hermanos al Rescate group, who were attempting to help Cuban refugees get to the U.S.

Cruz claims they are intimidated by the commander-in-chief and the capabilities of the U.S. military. Senator Lindsey Graham, in turn, said that the fall of Maduro’s regime could lead to the collapse of the dictatorship in Cuba as well: “The communist dictatorship in Cuba has no chance of survival. It’s only a matter of time.” For years, Cuba has relied on Venezuelan oil. Cheap supplies were a matter of economic survival for Havana. Cuban intelligence services operated in Venezuela as if it were their home turf: they worked closely with law enforcement, security services, and the political apparatus. In practice, Cuban advisers were embedded in key Venezuelan ministries and agencies. For the opposition, their presence has always meant a loss of sovereignty. The slogan “Cubans out!” was heard at almost every anti-government protest. There was also resentment within the military. Mid- and lower-ranking officers viewed the Cuban “overseers” as a humiliation for the national armed forces. Today Sen. Cory Booker blocked passage of my bipartisan bill to rename the street outside of Cuba's embassy in D.C. as “Oswaldo Payá Way," which is designed to confront the Cuban regime with the legacy of Payá, a dissident who they murdered because he advocated freedom. I am saddened by this. My friend from New Jersey had previously voted for this bill. The Senate had previously passed it unanimously. The only thing that has changed is that Donald Trump is President now, and Democrats are committed to complete obstructionism - even on issues of human rights they have previously supported. The hearts of Cuban-Americans in New Jersey and across the country are heavy at the Senator's objection. Meanwhile, the Cuban communist government is cheering.

Three updates coming out of Cuba. 1. American flags are being sent to the island and Cubans are displaying them on their porches, balconies, etc.. This is infuriating the Cuban president ! When you hear, they don’t want to be liberated it’s a lie they’re begging for it! Quick note, Mado may have been Colombian and never should’ve been allowed to be president of Venezuela. This is supposed to be announced by the US soon. Cuban president told it it’s people learn to eat whatever you can grow. No food is coming.
