I’m not trying to. My comment was a response to the whole “pope keeps his job with a sweet 16” thing. The bar should be higher than that and it always was. I feel like the fanbase is settling and that’s what topples giants like Indiana or UCLA

That’s fair. As someone who tends to be more negative I’ll offer this as something I feel never gets said out loud. The negative fans love Kentucky too. A lot of us feel like we’re wasting time while other schools like Duke and UConn pass us by. I hope Pope wins big

Top 5-6 in the sec is crazy. Kentucky is supposed to be the standard for all of college basketball. SEC should be an “afterthought.”

That wasn’t the topic. The topic was what keeps the job. It’s ok to have multiple thought processes on one topic.

We’d be lowering the standards for him to keep the job in that scenario. If we have a repeat of year 1 in year 3 (with a healthy team) and he keeps the job then this is no longer Kentucky basketball

The program needs more “juice”, Pope may end up being an issue excellent X and O’s coach. He is tainted in recruiting circles and public precipitation is at an all time low. Elite 8 or unemployment line IMO

I'm straight up saying it should be an expectation. Pope has made Kentucky the least “Cool” school of the Blue Bloods.He continual embarrasses UK in recruiting. He has to do something to change the narrative, an Elite 8 would go a long way to flipping the script.

It would go a long way, agree with you there. Will push back a bit that the recruiting is very much also being used as an engagement tool. Would rather get top 5 portal classes than HS classes tbh. There’s guys that have had UK in the final 3-4 in and UK wasn’t even recruiting them any longer.

I don’t think a sweet 16 appearance improves job security at Kentucky. Especially if we were to get embarrassed. We need a real March run. We need results. If you told yourself 10 yrs ago that you were content with 6th place in the SEC and a sweet 16 you would not be okay with it

Well, no one in the know more than you or us has said otherwise. Firing coaches who make the sweet 16 in year 3 makes it harder to find a coach when you need one.

I don’t think they’d fire him if we made the sweet 16… but I almost feel like that’s worst case scenario for the program. Almost like if stoops would’ve beat Texas last year, we wouldn’t have stein this year.

Its directly related to the fuckig topic. If Pope loses 12 games and doesnt make it out of the forst wkend. Hes gone. And he should be gone. This isnt just about winnings and losing either. Maybe I'm crazy but with a new successful football coach who's flipped a pereinially flat FOOTBALL team around in year ONE at Kentucky and a new AD I believe it puts even more pressure on Pope. Might just be surprised how bad it looks being 5-6 in the SEC at years end. Idk
