@BigBrainPhiloso That is the exact question my book ATOMS answers and is built around. Human capital asks what a child can produce. Human capability asks what a child can become. One serves the economy. The other serves the person. We have spent decades optimising for the wrong one.

@BigBrainPhiloso Well - good question. She was for decades on the wrong side of hte barricade though - so that this sounds overly lame too.

This is nonsense. Scotland is not a Liberal Arts system. This is a US conceit, a myth, as many Liberal Arts colleges in the US are closig down due to lack of demand. A Medical or Engineering or AI Degree is not a Liberal Arts Degree. Dentistry is not about the philosophy of teeth.

@BigBrainPhiloso How about a liberal arts basis for clinical psychology- like, turn to the greatest minds to try to understand man, before we take 6 figures for drugging them? ...might give some purpose and infusion to the liberal arts, eh?

@BigBrainPhiloso Women cannot do a FT job and also keep civilisation afloat while men just do the job.
