Martin Lewis here explaining why children need to be taught financial education in schools. And that’s the Tory Schools minister. Shaking his head.

Economics and finance is not taught in the state school curriculum and yet it is in private schools. There’s a reason for that. The “elite” (sic) don’t want the serfs to understand how it works.

My daughter is so disillusioned by secondary school. Desperate for a more useful bias to learning like budgeting, taxation, pension, wills - all the stuff that hits you hard in adulthood. Plus more practical skills like DIY, better food tech lessons, etc.

The last thing any state wants is for people to grow up understanding money. Their worst nightmare.

The last thing the Capitalist class want is a financially-savvy workforce making their money work for them. If we all started retiring early or not having to work at all they couldn't make money. We work so they don't have to.

Completely agree with @MartinSLewis here. I have worked in Banking for 30+ years and the lack of simple basics that most people do not know or understand has never improved. Educate the children to help prevent problems in adult life in relation to how to manage their finances.

@MartinSLewis I worked for a Building Society as a strategic planner in the 80s. We approached Govt to work with them on a scheme for education about personal finance. We were turned down flat. My view is they didn’t want a financially educated public. Knowledge is power, ignorance is slavery!
