We had this exact same design flaw in the game Defiance back in 2013. It was hilariously bad for cover utilization and invoked what we in the encounter design cubicles called the “Zoolander Effect.” When we tried to argue our case to the leads, we were met with a stonewall. Making the crosshair swap sides, be more centered, or even be dynamic in a 3rd person camera mode required too many dev cycles to implement. I see these Chinese devs are cutting the same corners.

Fortnite doesn't have this problem

Linkzr got laughed at when trying to explain this and how it's unintuitive just cause he used Magik as the example character and people thought he was complaining about the big sword hitbox (he wasn't even using the sword to showcase this). this shows he was absolutely right.
