And then RDJ proceeded to be the best casting ever done for a role. I can’t imagine anyone else playing Tony Stark, absolutely no one can do it the way he did it.

Before Iron Man (2008), Marvel Studios was nearly bankrupt. Robert Downey Jr. was considered “uninsurable” by studios. Jon Favreau fought the studio to cast him anyway because Tony Stark’s flaws mirrored RDJ’s real life. Iron Man didn’t make RDJ iconic. RDJ made Iron Man impossible to replace.

Robert Downey Jr. is 61 as of today & I’ve found myself revisiting both Iron Man 1 & Iron Man 2. Jon Favreau & RDJ are an outstanding partnership, they definitely have a great chemistry together that I hope is rekindled. I might need to revisit Shane Black’s Iron Man 3 now 🎂.
