Mass deportations are good for the American worker. Look at what happened just this past week in Omaha, Nebraska. ICE agents raided a meatpacking facility, arrested 76 workers for being in the country illegally. And what happens next? NBC reports that there is a flood of applicants from the... local community seeking the jobs previously held by the workers here illegally. It just goes to show that this theory—that Americans don’t want the jobs that illegal immigrants have, essentially this new age justification, this way to rationalize cheap slave labor from the third world—is not just morally repugnant, but it’s factually wrong. Americans want to rise to the occasion. They want to have the opportunities available to them. When someone breaks the law, takes your job, and deprives you of wages and all of the benefits that those wages afford you and your family, that needs to be corrected. Now put AI on top of that—the insecurity that we are all experiencing, the fact that people are waking up and some new technology is landing in their jobs without training and without having a say. Of course they’re going to be anxious and feel insecure about what the future holds. And so I really think we need to stop and ask, “Who are we doing this for? What are the results we want? And how do we get there?” We get there by including workers in the process. They shouldn’t have to be at the end of the cycle. They should actually be upstream.
