Massachusetts town cancels Fourth of July celebration. Marine veteran Brian Shortsleeve for Massachusetts is running for governor of Massachusetts and he blames the current governor. "Maura Haley has blown billions and billions of dollars in taxpayer money on migrant hotels, on free rental vouchers for migrants, and on a variety of programs that do not benefit taxpayers. To put that in perspective. Probably $5 billion has been spent in direct and indirect costs on those migrant programs. For that amount of money, Todd, you could give every city and town in the state $15 million in local aid, and you could throw one hell of a Fourth of July party with that much money."

Last year, the $35 billion Canada Infrastructure bank spent 20 times more on salaries & bonuses than on actual infrastructure. They also gave out 8+ million in bonuses to its executives. In 2022, and almost every year since it started, they have spent multiple times more on salaries & bonuses than on actual infrastructure.

I find it ironic that we're having this conversation amidst the health care debate—that $30 billion would cover all the ACA subsidies for a year. It would eliminate all co-pays for prescription drugs for people from a year, and eliminate all medical debt. It's like he's making it easier to kill people than to keep people alive.

Of that total, $537 million went directly to shelter payments, by far the biggest expense. The next largest was $77 million for housing assistance programs designed to move families, including migrants, into longer-term housing. That pace put the state on track to exceed the $894 million it spent in fiscal year 2024, during the final stretch of the Biden administration, when record numbers of illegal migrants were crossing the southern border and many ended up in Massachusetts. On April 16, 2025, the Healey administration announced that the number of families in state shelters had dropped below 5,000 for the first time since July 2023. The decline came after President Trump took office and launched aggressive border enforcement and deportation operations.
