Yesterday was the last day of the Sentencing Bill - we discussed two amendments that would have ensured exemptions for sexual abuse/domestic violence crimes on specific government proposals to a) keep people out of prison using more suspended sentences and b) be released early. We lost both as the Lib Dems backed the government. This makes a mockery of all the rhetoric on Violence Against Women and Girls. We were told we need to release perpetrators - for example, members of grooming gangs - early so other victims can get justice by freeing up space in prison. You couldn't make it up. Fuming.

The solution to political disagreement in America is never violence. It should be easy for everybody to say that.
