I don’t think so. Barça, with their aggressive pressing structure, will leave spaces in behind. So Madrid should take a transitional approach: so Ceballos isn’t needed. Need athletes in that midfield to win the ball and pass forward. He can come later to close up shop.

What’s your midfield for tomorrow?

For me, I’d go for a double pivot of Tchouameni and Camavinga (if he’s fit/firing) with Jude ahead of them. Arda coming in from the RW, to a box-shaped midfield 4. Valverde to hold from RB, and interchange if needed. Madrid need numbers to protect the defense.

That’s fine, because the transition threat from Mbappé and Vini is more than enough - if there’s on task. Arda’s job is to find either of them, whether down the middle/RHS.
