17 years ago today, we opened our first sweetgreen restaurant in Georgetown, DC in a tiny 560 sq ft building off campus right after graduation. The idea was simple, but big: to redefine fast food. We served a few hundred customers and played Robot Rock by Daft Punk as our first song. Today we operate over 230 restaurants in over 20 states, and serve millions of customers. Thank you to our devoted customers, farmers, partner suppliers and dedicated team members - past and present- for being a crucial part of this journey and helping us advance the Sweetgreen mission of connecting people to real food! I want to thank the person who discreetly reported the disturbing practice of storing food trolleys and other foodstuffs in a public toilet along Thika Road, specifically at the KEHNA toilets. This shows a shocking disregard for public health, with some prioritizing profit over customer safety, even if it means selling contaminated food. We cannot allow this to continue. While arrests may offer a short-term solution, the real need is education on food safety and hygiene. I urge all Nairobi residents to be cautious about where they consume food and to prioritize their health and safety.

More business owners are speaking out about the illegal (and disgusting) food carts in King County: "It needs to stop. The Health Department needs to correlate with the Police Department. The Police Department needs to correlate with the Business License Department. If you don't have a business license, you should not be operating a business." King County Public Health is now (gasp!) enforcing food safety laws and has begun shutting these E.coli factories down. Interestingly enough, public health officials also admit that these vendors have no interest in becoming legit or even safe. Recently Tukaram Mundhe was questioned by the Bombay High Court on why only private hotels and food establishments were being raided and food safety measures were been implemented there only and why wasn't any government establishments checked?? Within 24 hours of this Bombay High Court questioning, Tukaram Mundhe raided the Bombay High Court canteen regarding food related safety measures and found several lapses including workers not wearing gloves, head caps and food items not being covered!! This is my appeal to religious leaders, policymakers, scientists, doctors, entrepreneurs, and all people of good will. Microplastics and nanoplastics are no longer just an environmental issue. They are being found in the air we breathe, the water we drink, the food we eat, and inside the human body. This is a question of health. A question of children’s future. A question of responsibility before God, before humanity, and before the world entrusted to us. We need research. We need innovation. We need political will. And we need spiritual leaders who are not silent when creation itself is under threat. For the air we breathe. For the water we drink. A health inspector made an unexpected visit to an oriental food restaurant for a routine inspection. At first everything looked normal from the dining area, but once he stepped into the kitchen he started noticing one violation after another, improper food storage, questionable cleanliness, and several safety issues that shouldn’t have been overlooked. By the end of the inspection, the list of violations was much longer than anyone expected. Inspections like these can be shocking, but they also show why health checks are so important. Sometimes, what customers see in the dining room doesn’t always reflect what’s happening behind the kitchen doors. If you discovered your favorite restaurant had multiple health violations, would you give them another chance after they fixed the issues?

I’ve been warning for years that #Brexit would lead to food shortages. Christmas dinners will suffer from lack of veg! Now that war has broken out in #ukraine and #gaza we are suffering the most in Europe bc Brexit leaves us in a weak position. British food production is in rapid decline and the Autumn storms will now be felt over the coming weeks. To be sure of more robust food system we need to get back in the SM and CU.
